Sees Strange Sights
(Letter from Louth S. Dunlap to
Mrs. Mario G'oldsbcrry, of La
Grande.)
Somowhere in Franco,
November 2S, 1917,
Dear Friends:
Will send you a few lines tonight
cs I am in about the rlnht mood.
I've been on the sick list with the
la grippe for the last week but am
feeling better now. Was afraid I
was going lo have ono of my annual
cases of larangitis but guess its past
danger of that.
The weather here Is so much like
Oregon coast weather; rainy and the
days cold. We had a fine trip
across the "big drink." I didn't fart
sick enough to even miss a meal in
the 14 clay's trip. Didn't see any
thing of a submarine. I think they
are being proved a fako of late.
This is certainly a quocr old coun
try. Everything scorns hundreds of
years behind tho times wooden
shoes, ox teams, horses driven one in
front of the other, very soldom
abreast, people living In one part of
the house and In the next room have
somo hogs fattening for market or a
herd of cattle or sheep and the back
yard is tho street.
Well folks, how Is everybody?
Suppose Hattle is still working for
the O.-W. R. & N. Well, as re
strictions on this writing proposi
tion are so rigid they are to be made
short and snappy. So hoping every
body Is In the host of health and en-
Joy a happy Thanksgiving, Merry
Christmas and Happy Now Year.
Will close. Awaiting a reply, I re
main.
Your cousin,
LOET1I 3. DUNLAP.

A comedy that will prove a most
effective antidote for the blues or
anything faintly resembling them, is
"Ilashlmura Togo," a fascinating

which are so familiar to readers of

Thero Is good, red blood all

rIost Women Can Have
Says Dr. Edwards, a Wcll-Known
Ohio Physician
Dr. F. M. Edwards for 17 years treated
scores of women for liver and bowel
ailments. During these years he gave to
his patients a prescription made of a few
well-known vegetable ingredients mixed
with olive oil, naming them Dr. Edwards'
Olive Tablets. You will know them by
their olive color.
These tablets are wnndcr-workcrs on the
liver and bowels, which cause a normal
action, carrying off the waste and poison
ous matter in one's system.
If you hive a pale face, sallow look, dull
eyes pimples, coated tongue, headaches, a
listless, no-good feeling, all out of sorts,
inactive bowels you take one of Dr.
Edwards' Olive Tablets nightly for a time
and note the pleasing results.
Thousands of women as well as men
take Dr. Edwards' Olive Tablets the suc
cessful substitute for calomel now and
then just to keep in the pink of condition.

Word has just been received that
Company G has crossed the water
safely. Three of our Cove boys were
in this company: Sergeant Earl lan
ders, Corporal Thomas Willinms, High
Private Hazel Heady.
Mrs. Ed Steams has been called to
Pendleton by the illness of her broth
er, Mr. Felbaum.
Cove branch of the Red Cross has
just made another big shipment of ar
ticles to headquarters, as follows: (!)
hospital bedshirts, 25 dishtowels, 25
tray cloths, 20 cup covers, 24 wash
towels, 20 handkerchiefs, 12 bunches
for Lnwson and his stolen child, also
turns up at Joe's place, and the two
men recognize each other. This
starts a bloody liattlo In which Law
son takes a prominent part nnd res
cues Marta at the risk of his life.
Joe dies without letting his son find
out the truth nnd the children of the
two bitter enemies learn to love each
other.
Tho atmosphere, construction and
stage direction in this melodrama
are very much to the credit of the
producer. Tho acting also is of
merit. Dorothy Phillips Is appeal
ing ns Marta and almost convinces
one that a pure, inocent-mlnded
woman such as stio depicts, might be
found dealing faro in n gambling
hall. Wm. Stowoll has the breadth
of shoulders and also of mental
grasp required for the character of
young Lnwson. Lon Chancy makes
the had mnn of the plot a little too
palpable, but is forceful neverthe
less. Evelyn Selby Is practically
faultless ns Hilda, and William Clif
ford keeps Hal Curtis up to the
mark. Ed. Brown, Tom Wilson nnd
Clare De Ilrey complete the cast.
"Pay Me" will bo shown nt the
Star, Sunday and Monday.
