LA GRANDE WEEKLY OBSERVER-STAR
TWO FRENCH TOWNS WANT
USE OF liFAIfETTE
Paris, Sept 10. (By Mail.) The
name of Lafayette has been the bone
of contention of two townships in the
Haute-Lolre department. ' The town
of Le Puy-en-Velay, which has played
a' certain role in French history, as
the birthplace of several well-known
men, including a pope, has been ad
vocating changing its name to that
of Le Puy-Lafayette, in honor of the
general whose old home is not far off.
,,Bufc the,, town of. Bribude has taken
exception. During a recent i session
the municipal council decreed that, in
its much as the Chateau of Chavaniac,
"Lafayette's birthplace, was in the
parish of Brioude, and that several
of his family resided in the town,
where the general was wont to come
every year for the local fete, the name
of Lafayette belonged by right to
Brioude aha suuuiu
by Le-Puy. ., -s ,..

BLACK SMOECE
a
The United States Government analysis of the various soft coals used in the West show that same
contains an average of 40 per cent volatile Volati le in coal is the smoke and gases and is the first,
element released from coal when burning same. This black smoke and gas in the ordinary stove
escapes unconsumed through the smoke pipe and chimney.
Tests have proven the volatile in coal when burned before escaping through chimney contains the
same percentage of heat units as the carbon in coal.
The Air Blast
Universal
With its new and novel construc
tion supplies an abundance of
supcrhoxtod air directly over the
' fuel chamber, thereby burning and
eonsuming all the smoke and gases
and assuring one hundred percent
heating efficiency This overdraft
of heated air also baffles the heat
(preventing its usual free escape
through smoke pipe) and deflects
the heat to the floor.
