Friday night was the scene of much
excitement and' pleasure for Miss
Mary Alice Hill and her friends when
Helen Curry and Inez Knowles en
tertained for Miss Hill at the Currey
home on Fourth Street with a mis
cellaneous shower.
The porch was decorated with large
boquets of golden rod and marigold.
The refreshments wero served on
small tables where little yellow cand
les and nastuitisums helped carry out
the artistic and well worked out color
scheme.
During the refreshments an airship
floated down from the decorations and
lighted on Miss Hill's table. ' Surely
her ship has come in filled with
beautiful gifts.
The Hil'.-Watson wedding will rake
place the middle of September. The

NAVY LEAGUE PROVIDES WARM CLOTHES FOR
RELIEF OF SUBMARINE VICTIMS PICKED
UP BY THE PATROLS.
WASHINGTON, D. C, Sept. 7. For the relief of refu
gees picked up from the life boats of submarine victims.
the Navy- League has made a shipment , of warm second
hand clothing to patrol vessels in the war zone. The
shipment was made through individual channels in ac-
'ordance with the instructions of Secretary of the Navy
Daniels regarding the league's relief work for men of the
Navy.
It is probable that this relief work of the league will bo
extended but until specifically requested no person should
send any secondhand garments for this purpose to the
league as no use could be made of them now. When more
clothing is needed the league will give due notice.
Warm, dry clothing is the greatest, need of the refugees
picked up in the submarine zone. Persons arc taken
aboard the patrol vessels who have been adrift in open
boats in bad weather for two days or more. Oftentimes"
they arc drenched to the skin, insufficiently clad and suf
fering from hunger. Many a sailor of the patrol forces h;is
robbed himself in order to give clothing to these poor vic
tims of frightfulness.
It is said that a destroyer could carry enough outfits for
20 persons, the number apt to be picked up from two life
boats. A supply could be maintained at a shore base, if
needed, and every patrol boat provided with a supply of
outfits before leaving for sea.
Warm overcoats and waterproof garments are the most
necessary articles. Heavy men's suits and a few outfits
lor women, probably not more than two or three to every
20 supplied, could bo used.
