GAIL KIKE IN HOLE OF
MIEN IN THRILLING PICTURE
Supposedly cut off ty his wealthy
father with only a poor Mexican mine
in place of the big fortune he had ex
pected to be his, the Jong hero of
"The Red Woman" goes to Mexico
to make his fortune. There he meets
and falls in' love with a young Indian
girl named "Maria." Later it is an
nounced that the you.g man has
really fallen heir to his father's en
tire fortune, the father having made
a will keeping this bequest secret for
six months after his death in order
that his son might have an opportun
ity of making good, following the
announcement that the young man
is a millionaire, the girl from back
home who had been engaged to him
but who had broken the engagement
when she thought him practically
penniless, follows him to Mexico.
Maria tells the young man that he
must go back to his old home and
marry the society girl. The man goes
back to the east, but remains only a
short time. Then he returns to
Mexico and then comes the startling
jand wholly unexpected climax of this
exceptional drama. Miss Gail Kane
is the star of this attraction. The
I supporting cast is large and capable.

GERMAN SUBMARINE INTELLIGENCE OFFICE
LOCATED.
(By Arthur E. Mann, United Press Staff Correspondent)
.Stockholm, July 11. (By mail) Allied secret service
and intelligence officers, with the cooperation of the po
lice of the Scandinavian countries, have recently sue
ceeded in unearthing and dispersing a large and well or
ganized (ierman submarine intelligence office headquart
ers in Gothenburg, Sweden.
In their investigations the officers discovered a naval
intelligence map of the waters surrounding the British
Isles and the North Sea. The water area on the map was
divided into small squares, each one numbered. An elab
orate code was also found for use in conjunction with thi3
map.
Messages based on this code, although apparently read
ing like private mercantile telegrams and cablegrams,
could in reality be deciphered into accurate descriptions
of Allied warships or of belligerent or neutral merchant
men. From the spy headquarters in Gothenburg, agents were
sent to Sandinavian ports and attempts were made,
whether or not, to get them into England. These agents
were supplied with the code and map mentioned and were
reporting to headquarters on the sailings of merchant
men. Tt is supposed that in some way the headquarters
in Gothenburg communicated the information to German
submarines at sea, probably by wireless stations hidden
along the coast.
'One of the chief branches of the Gothenburg office was
in Christiana and a Norwegian was actually engaged there
to go to England on the espionage service, being supplied
with the code and map in addition a process of invisible
ink writing for mail reports. Another branch was in Mal
um, Sweden. Tt is believed that many of the agents of the
German spies in Gothenburg were Scandinavians. ' At
about the same time of the discovery of the Gothenburg
office, a German giving the name of Klein was arrested in
Sweden, charged with a plot to murder British Ambassa
dor Buchanan in Potrograd. Klein was afterward re
leased but deported from Sweden.
