Who Killed Frank Little
SARAH BERNHARDT IN "MOTHERS OF FRANCE'
At the Arcade Theatre, Wednesday and Thursday.
Butte, Mon., Aug. 14 (United
Press) Either German agents of tho
W. W. killed Frank Little, lynched
I. W. W. agitator.
This today was the remarkable
statement of Secretary Edwards of
the Montana Metal Trades council and
one of the most prominent labor
leaders in the state. Edwards has
studied the Little Killing caretully,
but he is unable to choose between
his two theories.
He finds motive for cither theory.
If German agents killed Little, their
motive was to create further distur
bance and increase I. W. W. activity.
Butte produces one fifth of the cop
per mined in the United States and,
Edwards concludes, German agents
would not stop at taking a life if
they thought they could interfere
with the production of this metal
necessary in the manufacture of muni
tions.
On the other hand, Edwards finds
there was a suspicion among certain
Industralites that Little was a de
tective, working to secure secrets
of the organization. If this theory
is correct, Little paid for his deceit
with his life.

WARNINGS FOR AMERICA
j The United States Will Need the Best Machines and Their
Best Men Against the Germans Prussian "Speed
in Up" of Aeroplane Construction Proves Disastrous.
(United Press Staff Correspondent)
With the British Armies in the
Fiold, July 10 (By Mail) There's a
lesson to the United States not to
make haste too precipitately, in recent
air battles here. The structural de
fects of German aircraft have been
strongly illustrated of late. They
were of. machines hurriedly built as
a result of Germany's "speeding up"
of aeroplane construction. Now that
America is going to hustle up and
build great fleets of such craft she
will do well to note some of the re
sults of too much speed and not
enough precaution.
In one week recently seven- German
planes were seen literally to break up
in the air, the pilots and observers
being hurled to the earth beow.
These accidents were unmistakably
the result of faulty construction. Two
other Prussian biplanes suddenly
burst into flames in the view of Brit
ish fighters for no accountable
reason.
i Morever, the new German planes
are exceedingly vulnerable, probably
due to faulty material and rush work.
One British lieutenant the other day
fired 40 rounds at 25 yards range
and broke the German's wings clear
off. Another British fighter turned
his machinegun fire at the tail of one
of fifteen Prussian machines, from a
distance of 60 yards. The Boche's tail
slid clear off and the machine crash
ed to earth.
On the same day as this last inci
dent, five British flyero attacked a
fleet of Albatross scouts among the
clouds. The fiohter
I shortly in the fleecy clouds and then
it was every man for himself. One
British captain, after driving off three
Germans, hid in a cloud and awaited
the fourth, whom he saw approaching.
At the correct moment, the Britisher
dived- out, got below his enemy, and
fired 58 shots. . He broke the German
plane completely in two.
On the following day a British air-
fighter, battling with nine planes,
planes, broke one into several pieces
with a few shots, and then saw two
other of his enemies burst into flames,
'One fell, like a comet, the second
i burned slowly. On this second one
jthe pilot, unable to bear the aw, any
I of the fire, leaped out. The observer,
'left with a pilotless machine, crawled
jout among the fuselage, but fell off
as the plane reared and plunged. '
Once' again, six British flyers at
tacked twelve enemy planes. One of
the German machines burst into
flames, one was crumpled by gunfire,
and another just simply collapsed af
ter 18 rounds of fire.
The moral is that Americans will
need the best machines and their best
men against the Germans. Even then
it would be foolhardy to expect a
walkover.
Right now the German high com
mand is irrouoinir his fivers. nra
of the British aerial sunremaw. iiutt
as a year ago he grouped artillery in
to traveling "circuses". The idea ib
that since the Germans are unable to
maintain equality of the air everv.
where along the front, they can con
centrate a i lying "circus" at some
weak spot, or at some place in the
line which is threatened.
HOME GROWN
The mere announcement that Sara
Bernhardt in the moving picture,
"Mothers of France" will be seen att
the Arcade theatre on Wednesday and
Thursday is sufficient to arouse in-
! tense interest as this is probably the
last picture in which the divine Saran
will appear and as it shows rrecn
trenches. French battlefields and
French cities in wartime. When ex
hibited in France and England this
picture took those countries by sturm,
It was the biggest motion picture
success ever presented in those coun
tries and 'it seems certain that this
tremendous success will be repeated
on this side of the Atlantic. Certainly
no picture ever produced has such'
a combination of interest ana enter
tainment. In the first place the tar
alone would lift any picture into the
extraordinary class. To this is added
the timeliness of the production, the
magnificence upon which it has been
staged, the intense interest of the plot
and the wonderful war picture filmed
under the auspices of the French gov
ernment in French trenches and on
French battlefields. Some of the
scenes are memorable. For instance,
one -scene shows Madame Benhardt
in front of the statue of Joan d'Are
before the Cathedral at Eheims. The
havoc wrought in the Cathedral by
German shells is plainly evident in
this scone. You will never see the
like of this attraction. It is so out of
the ordinary, so wonderfully interest
ing and entertaining, so splendidly
photographed and so tremendously
acted by Sarah Bernhardt, that it is in
an unapproachable class by itself. Do
