the city reseivoir falls below five feet.
It is necessary to keep the water in
the city reservoir up to this height,
said Mr. L. M. Hoyt, city water super
intendent yesterday. The water con
sumption at present is very heavy.
Persons whoso water bills ordinarily
Tun aoout $1 or $z per month are
contracting bills that will amount to
$5 or $(! a month, irrigating their
gardens. So far as is possible, said
Mr. Hoyt, the water is pumped from
the pond inti which a flume dis
charges which takes the water from
the river above the slaughter house.
Some water is, however at times
pumped from below the slaughter
house. It is also stated by Mr. Hoyt
that analysis was made of this water
some time ao and it was found to be
pure. The water is pumped from the
side of the river opposite the slaugh
ter house, and it is said thnt the cur
rent would not permit the slaughter
house to affect the water. As long as
river water is being pumped at all it
would seem to tho Observer to be
prudent to !xil the drinking water.
You won't have to worry then about
it.
