AT THE COLONIAL THKAJ KK SATURDAY AND SUNDAY. T
,' Teeming with clever situations and
' carrying a mighty message to every (
, man, woman and child of mature ! ( Reviewed ty Hanford C. Judson. in
mind, "The Unborn," the much talked I tne Moving Picture World.)
i of sociological picture which created Qf the throe new Paramounts, I
think "The Mtrcelhm Millions" comes
first in interest because of the super
ior characterization, especially in the
personalities drawn by George Beban
and Helen Jerome Eddy. These able
players picture the wonderment, joys
nd despairs of a poor Italian truck
gardener and his wife, who suddenly
inherit two millions. They become the
easy . prey of two conscienceless
schemers, played by Eugene Pallette
and Adcle Farrington, who coolly take
possession of the family and its
money. Tho schemers become re
spectively business adviser to the
newly rich man and social mentor to
his wife. They play on lesser human
chords till the higher instincts in the
Italians reassert themselves, and
they begin to prefer the little farm
cabin to the troubled palace. The end
sees the devils swept out into dark
ness. It is characterization rather than
story that makes the picture. It be
gins with a good situation, but for
gets the story it opens with for the
heartstruggles of two other charac
ters, the Italian and his wife. Just a
bit at the close returns it to its orig
inal path and accounts for the lesser
persons. Beban and Miss Eddy seem
always true and interesting. One
feels at times, rather than knows, that
the methods of the schemers are not
true to life. They seem a bit too
brazen; for, after all, the Italians
were neither fools nor children, and
would hardly have been taken in in
just this way. But it is entertaining
all the way and the picture will make
strong friends. It is an Oliver Mo
rosca picturs and will be shown at the
Arcade today and tomorrow.

The Toggery
so much favorable comment in Seattle,
Spokane and Tacoma where it has
been showing to capacity audiences
for the past month, comes to the Col
onial theatre Saturday and Sunday,
j Frankly, the production is a power
ful and bold propogandn against bir'.h
'control and it reviews this delicate sub
ijcct in an inoffensive manner. Carry
j ing a pathetic story throughout Ue
i feature. "The Unborn" depicts the dis
astrous results entailed by those who
I play with the proverbial fire. Action
jund cold facts predominate the picture
I which flays the unscrupulous physi
jcian who would assist in the premed
itated destruction of the unbon: The
story carries a "punch" which should
'do much toward assisting in the fight
for a social education for every child
of mature mind.
A clever company, handsr.nie inter
ior and exterior settings together with
a good theme, go to make "The Ln

Hawaiian Show
Coming To La Grande
One of the most novel attractions of
the season, will be Kulola's Hawaiians
which comes to Arcade theatre Tues
day for one night only. The Kulola's
Hawaiians are presenting their mu
sical, singing, dancing and instru
mental production, "The Princess of
Paradise," in which all the native
songs, dances, and instrumental num
bers are played and sung ns have
never 'before been offered to the
amusement public. This company
played a two weeks engagement at
the Tabor Grand Theatre Denver to
record-breaking business and will no
doubt be the banner attraction of this
season here. The company not only
sings the nativo songs, but ningii
American song ns well, which in
Chamberlain's The clever company demonstrate.
