lated dramatic incidents, but goes in
to the details of the life of the hero
ine, Mildred Gower, and her efforts to
achieve independence and save hei
own self-respect. She marries , for
money, and finds herself little more
than a slave. With the, aid of a
former suitor she studies for an op
eratic career and again meets with
many disappointments. At length she
learns that there is no royal road to
success, and giving up all her habits
of ease and luxury, plunges into a

Liquor Advertising Barred.
Washington, June 30. (United
Press) Liquor advertising or liquor
soliciting by letter, postal card, circu
lar, newspaper or publication of any
kind will be barred from the mails by
"Act of Congress" after tomorrow
when addressed to anyone in dry ter
ritory. Anyone "knowingly" sending
a liquor ad in violation of this act of
congress, whether publisher of a
newspaper or his agent or any liquor
dealer or his agen, is liable to $1,000
fine and imprisonment for six months.
For any subsequent offense a year's
imprisonment may be imposed. News
papers and magazine readers in dry
territory are likely to receive their
papers "censored" of liquor ads by

German Reservist Sentenced.
Boston, June 30. (Special) Fed
oral Judge Morton yesterday sen
tenccd Werner Horn, a German re
servist, to tho Atlanta penitentiary
for 18 months for illegally transport
ing dynamite on a passenger train
from New York to Vanceboro, Me., to
be used in an attempt to destroy the
International bridge across the St.
Croix river. He also. was ordered to
pay a fine of $1000.
