ti,o rwil's Double" is one of
those rare screen stories which de
serve a very high rating because of
the satisfying harmony and balance
in all its parts. Hats off to the au
thor for fine conception and construc
tion, to the director for admirable
handling, and to Hart for his intelli
gent interpretation of an extremely
difficult role. This statute should in
clude all those responsible for artis
try of background and title setting.
"The Devil's Double" can be laid away
after it has run its natural course on
the program and taken out again
later on for a second distribution.
The rare joy moments in a critic's life
aire when he can accord deep and
heart-felt appreciation of good work
done by those who are trying to do
their duty as sincerely as he is try
ing to do his, only he more rarely gets
a kind ward of recognition.
In first acknowledgment of fine
work in this play must reference be
made of an exceptional characteriza
tion, that of an artist truly tempera
mental. True genius is always tem-
' peramantal, but not in the manner us
ually shown on trie stage. J.ne crea-
' tive artist in this story is a singularly
accurate protraiture of the creative
I artist in real life, not selfish, not
I egotistical, but so absorbed in his
work as to appear both selfish and
! egotistical. It is characteristic of
' people born with intensely vivid imag
inations to live in a world of their
! own while creating and to exhibit im-
i natience with whatever interferes
with their intense work. All this is
clearly indicated by the author and
strongly interpreted by Robert Mc
Kim. This striking characterization
heightens the intense mental revela
tions of Hart by contrast. Hart por
trays the ruffian gambler whose en
vironment and draining have provitlea
an alligator-like insensibility. Ho is

SEASON'S BIGGEST HIT COMING.
The current season's biggest hit in
New York, Griffith's colossal spectacle
"Intolerance," will come to the Arcade
Saturday and Sunday. Seats can now
be reserved for either night. None
of the seats for the matinees aire re
served. There will be only two shows
a day.
This amazing production is said to
be more than the world's greatest
photoplay; in every way it is the big
gest art-work of any description ever
created. In comparison with those
1 gigantic structures reared by Mt.
Griffith in his resusitation of Ancient
Babylon, the mighty walls, the tem
, pie of Bel, and the gorgeous palace
I of Belshazzar, the most imposing
I structures of New York or any other
modern city seem unimportant. Un
' paralleled in battle scenes is the fero
cious and thrilling attack upon Baby
lon by the great Cyrus and his hordes
of mail-clad warriors.
