Never Too Late to Start Treatment
for Infantile Paralysis.
In the June Woman's Home Com
panion Dr. Roger H. Dennett has an
excellent article on infantile paralysis,
the scourge that so many physicians
fear will return with the warm weath
er. Among other things Doctor Den
nett says:
"It is impossible to tell, when the
child is first taken with the disease,
what the eventual outcome is to be.
Even those who are most completely
paralyzed at the start occasionally be
come entirely well; whereas, paralysis
that is very slight in the beginning
may show no later improvement, even
with the most faithful treatment. It
is never too late, however, to 3tart
some sort of treatment, even for the
little ones who have had their infan
tilo paralysis. for a long while, and
who have not had the advantage of
any special treatment afterward. One
never knows how much can be done
until one has tried, and it is only fair,
at any stage of the paralysis, to give
the child the benefit of science, no
matter how discouraging the outlook
may seem.''
TODAY'S WAR RECIPE.
(From Britain's official win-the-war
cook-book.)
Bacon Soup One onion, two table
spoonfuls of maize rice or barly flour,
three quarters of a teacupful of rice,
half a pint of milk, two carrots,
tablespoonful margine or dripping,
pint and a half of water in which ba
con has been boiled. Fry the onion
(chopped small) in the fat, stir in the
flour smoothly, and add gradually
enough cold milk to form a smooth
paste. Add the rest of the milk and
a pint of the bacon water. Wash the
rice. Scrape the carrots and cut them
into long, thin shreds. Boil the rice
and carrots in the remaining bacon
water, adding more water if neces
sary. When these are done, do not
strain off the water in which they
have been boiled, but add the entire
contents of the saucepan to the rest
of the soup. Simmer for ten minutes
or longer, stirring occasionally.
Four Hundred Acres Planted to Beans
Lincoln, June 14. (United Press)
Four hundred acres planted to beans
is the "bit" recently done by W. E.
Swatzlander, a Cheyenne county
farmer, to help Uncle Sam Win the
war. He used nearly four tons of
beans as seed. It cost him $1,128.60,
With a normal crop he will raise
enough beans to furnish every man.

bushel of beans, and enough left over
to feed twice the population of his
county for a year.

Jack Murray Released.
Outfielder Jack Murray has been un
conditionally ..released 'by the New York
Giants under the "ten years' service"
rule, which says that major league
player of ten years- experience cannot
be sent to the minor lengues without
his consent. This is the second time
that Murray has been released by the
Giants under the same rule. After he
got his first releaso from New York
Murray signed with the Cubs. Later
be was released to Toronto of the In
ternational league, where he played
brilliant ball. Murray secured his un
conditional release from Toronto last
winter, presumably to accept the man
agement of a minor league club, but
later signed with the Giants.

Suggestions on Care
Of Eyebrows and Teeth
To Make Eyebrows Grow. There is
nothing better than pure white vase
line for promoting the growth of the
eyelashes and eyebrows, says the Farm
and Fireside. Apply it with a Bmnll
brush, being enreful not to get It into
the eyes, and brush the eyebrows vigor
ously every day to promote circulation
and stimulate the growth of hulr. It is
best to apply the vaseline at night and
wash it off iu the morning.
Care of the Teeth. Once a day is not
often enough to brush your teeth. It
must bo done three times a day to keep
the teeth in good condition. However,
no matter how often one brushes the
teeth or how clean they appear to be, it
is well to visit a dentist once or
twice a year aud have them thoroughly
cleaned.
Treatment For Blackheads. For
blackheads wash the face thoroughly
every night, using first hot then cold
water. The hot water will soften the
black part, which is nothing more than
an accumulation of dust which hns set
tied on the tops of the little pores of
the skin. These pores have become
choked with perspiration, ami you must
niassago your face wheu washing so
that this accumulation is loosened, and
blood from underneath tho surface will
force it out 'with your assistance from
the outside. Twice a week apply a good
cold cream.
To Abolish Pimples. Pimples are usu
ally the result of iuiproiier eating and
not enough exercise and sleep. Eat
simple food, lots of milk and eggs, fruit
and fresh vegetables, see that you are
not constipated, get eight hours of sleep
dally and take exercise frequently in
the open air.
To Waah Blankets.
Put a pint of household ammonia
and a pint of warm water iu a tub,
lay the blanket iu and pour a little
warm water over it Just enough to
wet the top folds, Cover closely and
allow the blanket to stand for a few
moments, thut the fumes arising from
tue ammonia may loosen the dirt, then
wash aud dry It in the ordinary way iu
water of the same temperature as the
first used. Pass the blanket lightly
through the wringer and hang it out to
