The story of the picture appearing
at the Arcade tonight only:
Jim Grimsby is a mountaineer of
the gold country with a chronic
grouch. He had married eighteen
years previously for the purpose of
rearing a son to whom he could teach
his own peculiar ways, and who
should become his boon companion.
His wife died, leaving him with a girl
baby, which completely soured his
spirits. He named the child iBill, and
brought her up as masculine as pos
sible, dressing her as a boy, in over-

the pictures represented in tho maga

Her father shows opposition, but her
spirit of defiance, inherited from her
father, startles Grimsby, who desists
in his attempt to cut off her hair.

with a desire to defy this college boy

Gunboats.
Gunboats were originally designed
to be worn on the ocean. But some
folks wear thcin on their feet.
The gunboat is a (bad thing to
got mixed up with, either on the end
of a mad Swede's leg or at the point
of issue in a naval engagement.
1 he gunboat inspires a great deal
of respect, as a rule, by virtue of the
kick it packs. Make all the fun you
want to of the man who wears 'em;
but don't get within range when you
do it.

GOOD OLD SUMMER TIME
Once more it's with us, not in exactly overwhelming
measure, but enough to once more gladden our old
hearts. To us summer means so much, not only be
cause it enables us to indulge our propensities for
surf bathing, picnicking, camping, motor trips, etc.,
but also for the reason that Mother Earth now brings
forth her increase. For 1917 the increase so far as
the fruit crop is concerned promises to be an abund
ant one. While "Beans and Bacon" may be staple
necessities, they do not appeal to the taste as does
luscious ripe fruit and new ffesh vegetables. Our
mission during these lovely summer months is to sup
ply you with the latter. Our plans for this are all
arranged. Don't disappoint us on your orders
we'll not disappoint you on the goods.
