Baccalaureate Sermon.
(Continued from Page One)
may fail, your hopes be destroyed,
your bank stranded and yet you be
a success. How? Because, you are
making a life, not a living. Too
much stress has been placed upon the
commercial value of an education. It
is all true, but what are commercial
values, compared with spiritual val
ues? Many u man has found in mak
ing a great success from the com
mercial value, he has lost those val
ues that count for eternity.
"Speak, History! who are life's
victors?"
Unroll thy long annals and say:
Aro they those whom the world
calls tho victors?
Who won tho success of a day?
Tho martyrs or Nero? The Spar
tans who fell as Thermopylae's tryst
or tho Persians and Xerxes.
His judges or Socrates? Pilate or
Christ?
This is a most important day for
you. This week you will receive a
diploma which is1 the outer badge of
inner culture. What will make your
life a success? The set of the soul,
what will make your lifo a failure?
The set of tho soul.
One ship goes East, another goes
West
(iy the self-same wind that blows.
Tis tho set of tho sail and not the
gale
That points the way you go.
Like the winds of the sea, are the
ways of fate
As we journey .-.long through life
'Tis tho set of the soul that de
termines the goal
And not the storm and strife.
