The Trend of Spring Styles
For Spring and Summer, the dashing
looking fashions, the bewildering array
of novelties in, clothing and haber
dasher' reflect fell the spirit of the
swift-moving days in which we are
living.
A few words as to the turn style has
taken:
COATS are longer, but with even
detail centered about emphasizing the
high waist effect. Lapels are short and
gracefully narrow. ' Sleeves are shapely
and just wide enough for stiff cuffs,
now much affected by smart dressers.
Fancy poc kets are the rule with slant
ing, crescent or vertical styles to choose
from. In shoulders two types are pop
ular the square military effect or the
English sloping effect.
WAISTCOATS are being made col
larless, so as to avoid all possible surplus
weight, and open low enough to make
the most of the gorgeous shirt and
neckwear creations of the Spring sea
son. Long points at the bottom.
Bottom button should show a forced
effect when buttoned.
TROUSERS are straight hanging in
what Fifth Avenue calls the "stove
pipe" effect. Cuffs or plain bottoms
optional.

Carefully hidden under the thrills of
"A Modern Cinderella" is a lesson for
every family. Every younger sister
whoso hopes and longings are often
crushed to give "big sister" a chance:
every older sister, whose eagerness
for advancement often becomes gross
selfishness, and every mother and
father whose concern for their first
born often creates a heart-breaking
neglect for their younger children
should see this great William Fox
photoplay.
A Modern Cinderella" is not a ser
mon. Its a William Fox motion nic-
ture and contains all the love, intrigue
and breath-taking action the phrase
implies.
But after the family leaves the
theatre, and in the quiet of the home
talks over the "movie," the fitness of
this rollicking play of childhood to
their own household will loom up.
Joyce, the character I play in this
film, is above all a carefree and mis
chievous girl, trying haTd to be happy
with the few little things she has. And
Polly, isn't shs a well, typical big
sister;- one who goes to all the hops,
gets all the new clothes, and is
shocked when little sister asks to go
see the pictures with Johnny?

dad maybe a little henpecked who
shows his sympathy for the little one
and tries to fight her fights without
"getting in bad" with ma.
This is the picture of modern life
which "A Modern Cinderella" reflects.
I am sure many little sisters will feel
much happier when they Bee that, af
ter all, Joyce's bubbling spirit, aided
by her mischievousness, wins Polly's
beau. I am also sure that after big
sister and mother see "themselves as
others see" them, the baby of the fam
ily will notice such a sudden change in
their manner that she'll think her
fairy godmother dropped in for a chat.
And I'll bet old dad will chuckle when
mother suggests that the youngster
needs a new dress.
