Scat! I'm saving this for VELVET!
MOTHER NATURE Protects Your Tobacco IF You Smoke VELVET
She sees to it that Velvet's mellowness
and aroma are not created by artificial
methods, but by her very own. That is
A complete natural curing for two
years, during which time the tobacco
remains, untouched, in its original
wooden hogsheads. At the end of
two years it is made into Velvet and is
as smooth as its name implies.

The metric system, the standard of
measurement used by virtually all the
foremost nations of the globe except
the United States, will be adopted in
a few years by this country, in the
opinion of Prof. E. O. Eastwood of the
university college of engineering.
"The United States cannot long re
main self-contained, even in the mat
ter of weights and measures," said
Prof. Eastwood. "The units of meas
urement affect the whole body of com
mercial relations between two coun
tries. As our trade with the South
American countries advances, the need
for a common, uniform standard will
increase. We cannot force our cus
tomers to accept our system if they
have been using another standard for
a long time. Thy United States can
not hold out ag.-.inst the rest of the
world ntMch longer."
Commercial necessity will be one of
the principal factors in bringing
aliout the change from the present
scheme of weights and measures to
the more uniform metric system, says
Prof. Eastwood. He points out that
commercial houses in the United
States in their trade with South
America have been forced more than
once to put up goods in special con
tainers based on the metric measure
ment. South America firms in trad
ing with continental Euaopc have ac
customed themselves to the metric
units.
The need for the adoption by this
country of the European standard
with respect to scientific implements
is evident, thinks Prof. Eastwood.
Many delicate instruments are manu
factured in Europe. When replace
ment of a part is necessary, the order
must be sent across the Atlantic. If
international standardization were ac
complished these replacement orders
would stay in America, along with
many original orders.
The metric system is a decimal
scheme based on the meter, which is
the distance between two lines drawn
on a platinum bar kept in Paris. The
system Is established by law in the
continental nations. England and the
United States permit the system to be
used, but do not sanction it by stat
ute. The meter is 39.37 inches. The

When You Have a Cold.
It is when you have a severe cold
that you appreciate the good qualities
of Chamberlain's Cough Remedy. Mrs.

"Our five-year-old son Paul caught a

his lungs and he had terrible cough

about him as the medicine we gave
him did not help him in the least. A
