Christian Endeavor convention reb
ruary 16, 17 and 18, will be in the
city tonight to speak in the main audi
torium of the Presbyterian church,
beginning at 7:30. The talk will be
followed by an informal social and
get-acquainted party in the Sunday
school room.
Mr. Hamilton is primarily a field-
worker for the C. E. World, the of
ficial organ of the C. E. society. How
ever his work is not limited to this
for he is a Christian Endeavor con
vention booster. !
Article Praises Mrs. A. E. Ivanhoe.
In a special article yesterday deil-j
ing with the women county school all-;
perintendents of the state, Mrs. A. E.
Ivanhoe is spoken of as follows by the
Oregon Journal:
Mrs. A. E. Ivanhoe of Union coun
ty, reelected last- fall, was the first
woman to hold the 'office of county
superintendent in the state. Mrs. Ivan
hoe used to be an easterner, but that
was long ago. She came from Wood
row Wilson's state, getting her edu
cation at the Salem, N. J., high school
and the state normal at Trenton. She
taught school in New Jersey for nine
years and then nfter her marriage
came to Oregon, settling at Joseph,
then 75 miles from a railroad.
"I have experienced all the hard
ships of a pioneer rife," says Mrs.
Ivanhoe. "My furniture was made at
a sawmill and limited to a few arti
cles. Dry goods boxes were made to
serve as dressers and cupboards, and
we dined on homely fare and all that."
When Mrs. Ivanhoe's children en
tered the public school, she again took
up teaching, giving service in the La
Grande, Pendleton and Enterprise
schools, and for one year in the Wes
ton normal.

wife of John La Bean, will be held

The La Beans have lived here for the

Colonization Plan.
Carrying out tne idea suggested by
the secretary of the National Forward
to the Land' league, business men, of
Savannah,' On., have' started on a
practical plan for the colonization of
8,000 acres of desirable farm land In
Chatham county, Ga., says the Town
Development Magazine. It Is expect
ed to locate fifty families on this tract
early next year.' Tresent Indications
are that these families will be selected
from European Immigrants, The colo
nists will take with them their own
pastor and religious creed. A feature
of the plan Is the establishment of a
model school and the employment of
an agricultural expert to direct and
assist the colonists In their work. Tho
school will be Identified with the ex
tension work of the State nnivorslty.

amino compounds, substances related
