damage -was done. A plumber had
been thawing pipes under the house
and apparently sparks in the refuse
and dust under the porch smouldered
for an hour or more after the work
man had left. The fire acted as a
good test for the department. Within
ten minutes of the call there were 15
or 20 men of the volunteers ready to
v ork.

The grand opening of the Y. M. C.
A basketball league last evening was

When J. II. Keeney, O.-W. agent,
answered the fire alarm from box 54
today he completed seven years' of
service with the department. "I start
ed with a fire," said Mr. Keeney, "and
it is fitting that my seven years ends
v.ith one. Chief Dispatcher Corbett
of the O.-W. started with Mr. Keeney,
"but theroiwere too many fires for me,
so I had to drop out."
