artists' and decor'itor in New York is
kept busy these days turning out
"genuine real old antique Chinese
lacquer" tables, chairs, mirror frames,
disks, cabinets, bedsteads, and what
not (not whatnots, however).
To be sure there are a great many
tiue Chinese pieces also, for the astute j

swamped our market with the glories

The most popular lacquer is in the

effective. Whole rooms are lovely

a'mosphere. Lacquer floor lamps are
beautiful with pagoda shaped shades
of silk and the lacquer mirrors begg r
inscription. Certainly anyone holding
the mirror up to nature ought to be
sure it is a lacquer one.
Set a serene and wise eyed Buddha
on the lacquer stand and back him up
with a Chinese mirror on the wall and
you have an artistic touch in your
living room that is hard to beat this

There are lacquer candle sticks and

The Philosophy of Revolutions
Morcly has somewhere said that
simplification is the keynote of the
Revformation. It pierced behind the
artificial and conventional to the nat
ural man and naturel life. But this is
surely true of every healthy revolu
tion: its movement is from the comb

nical to the vital, from the merely
traditional to tho original springs.
Its tendency is from pulsied ago to
the little child.
Crises continually arise which com
pel us to get rid of exhausting en
cumbrances. We have become over
burdened with the multiplication of
harness. It Is not always the ordinary
load of life which crushes us; it is the
increasingly heavy and complicated
means which we ha'e devised to draw
it. Our yoke is more galling than our
burden; the hardness is more harass
ing than the load. The complications
increase with the years. Society be
comes a steel network of hard, arti
ficial bonds, instead of remaining an
elastic fellowship.
And so there is imperative need of
crises and revolutions which will com
pel us to seek a simplicntion of life
and tlnought and feeling, nnd which
Will make us turn again and become
ns a little child. And mny not this
be one of the deep secrets of the time
through which we are passing? May
not this divine simplicntion be one of
its glorious issues? Things were be
comng fearfully stiff and conventional.
Now we are going to become more
natural, which will mean more fra
ternal, more generally accessible to

Diamond Mine Discovered.
Montevideo, Dec. 13. (By Mail)
(United Press) Reports that dia
mond mine has been discovered in the
Snlto department are under investi
L.ition by the Uruguayan authorities.
The claim is made by Antonio Santini,
an experienced prospector, who as
serts that the department is also in
other precious stones. His mineral
specimens are being analyzed.
