Plan to Make Rockies "Switzerland of
America" With Winter Sports
Denver, Colo., Dec. 13. (United
Pres) To make Rocky Mountain
National Park country the winter
Switzerland of America as well this
country's choiciest summer resort is
the big idea that L. C. Vay, supervisor
of the park is working on today.
"It is a land of marvelous beauty,"
Mr. Way declared. "It gets you and
holds you. There is room for every
' kind of winter sport - snowshoeing,
tobogganing and hockey - and the
air is never too cold. Why we play
golf nil winter in Estes Park. We are
putting on two ski courses at Fern
lake now, starting at the very top of
the mountain. .
"When I get the program of winter
sports arranged we expect to Tnake
the park the best-known winter re
sort on the continent."
Supervisor Way is building for the
future, too. More and better roads
for the automobilist, trails and foot
paths for the pedestrian- -these will
be built as fast as appropriations for
the work can be secured.
The transportation companies figure
there will be 300,000 visitors to the
park during next summer.

Nearly Six Hundred Acres of Land

trict. Mcacham, Dec. 13. (Special)
Under the terms of a deal closed yes

pany, of Pendleton, becomes the own
er of 529 acres of timber land within
a short distance of Meacham. The
land was secured by Mrs. Lyda Mc
Donald, wife of George McDonald,
and the consideration was between
$8000 and $9000. On the land it is
estimated there are from 12,000 to
14,000 cords of red fir, yellow pine
and black pine. The new owners plan
to cut several thousand cords of this
at once to put upon the market.
On Tuesday Meacham experienced
a severe wind and snow storm, similar
to a blizzard, the worst seen in years.
Hail and misty snow were so thick
that it was impossible to see more
than 50 feet for ya while in the even
ing. The snow depth amounted to
about six inches. Then on Saturday
morning 12 inches more had fallen.
The depth of the snow on the ground
at present is two feet.

HUGHE!
Engine and Carburetor Heater
I've got one. You won't find me fussing around in my cold garage for fifteen to
twenty minutes every morning applying hot cloths to my carburetor and manifold.
The Hughes Heater is attached to your garage light socket and placed under the
hood of your car. Keeps engine, carburetor and radiator warm on coldest nights
at a cost of less than one cent an hour.
It is the simplest, safest, and most economical heating device for motor cars in private garages.
Simplest: Because it is attached and detached in a minute.
Safest: Because it operates without flame tested and approved by the Underwriters' Laboratories
of the National Board of Fire Underwriters.
Most Economical: Because it delivers the heat only where it is needed under the hood of the
car, saving the heavy expense of heating the whole garage. In addition to this; it saves the strain
on the starting batteries and the wear on the bearings caused by the irregular flow of cold oil.
