for "Dad." But there comes only a
telegram of good wishes.

go to work for his father, and make
something of himself. But the elder
man is too busy cutting wages, raising
rents, and otherwise piling up a rec
. ord dividend for the corporation ove,,
whose destinies he presides, to pay
any attention to his boy. He provides
him with an allowance, and tells him
to enjoy himself, without getting in i
the way. .

years. lie was a pupil of Joseph
Joachim and has played before most
of the European crowned heads.
Skovgaard is introducing to tho
United States a number of Scandi
navian compositions and these prom
ise to bo especially interesting from
the fact that very little is known of
Scandinavian music and that on this
occasion they will bo played by a
Scandinavian. Skovgaard was person
ally acquainted with Edward Grieg,
Norway's greatest composer, and has
played most of his compositions with
tho composer himself.
The pianist of the company is Alice
McClung-Skovgaard, one of the most
powerful of women pianists.
Among the opera numbers given by

Show Orchard Machinery.
The machinery and other Industrial
exhibits of last year's National Apple
show were seen by thousands of grow
ers and in many ways attracted the
greatest attention of anything at the
show. These exhibits this year will be
larger and more complete.
Again this year there will be a con
test between tho leading apple ship
pers of the northwest to determine
which can make the best advertising
display of Its brand of extra fancy ap
pies. Kach entry will contain KM)
boxes of one variety of apples, strictly
standard extra fancy pack, put out h'v
one shipper under one trade mark
brand.
