Parodi belongs to a society of work
ers who, under the guidance of Guido
Perli, strive to defeat the oppression
of the poorer classes exercised by the
wealthy, whose champion in the Coun
cil Chamber is the Prince Candoni.
Beatrice attends some of the meetings
and she successfully pleads with the
members to overcome Cadoni's meas
ures through the eloquence of their
leader. (Between Perli and Beatrice
there comes a strong leve. Through
an error, she believes him faithless
and deserts him. Perli becomesi bit
ter. He leads his followers to the Pa
lazzo of the Prince. Upon arriving
they find the soldiers awaiting them.
Numbers are killed, among them Per
li, who lives just long enough to hear
the confession of the sorrowing Beat
rice and . forgive her. Beatrice then
returns to the convent.
Next to the acting of Bessie Bar
riscale, the Carlo Parodi of Wedge
wood Nowell is the most convincing
and impressive character portrayal in
the picture. The detail and the ar
tistic effect of the scenes throughout
