A. D. CroBsland und family expect
to leave Saturday for the Hermisto:i
section, where they will locate.
Mrs. Nora Webb gave an old
fashioned school-Kill party to a num
ber of her lady friends Tuesday af
ternoon. James Webb and Ed McMasters
took a bunch of horses to North Pow
der Wednesday to be offered at a pub
lic sale in that section.
Our citizen, John Minnick, is ex
pecting to lay in a big stock of North
Powder hay soon, by way of relieving
the stringency along that line. Ho
can lay good North Powder hay down
in Union so that he can sell it fof $20
per ton, with a slight margin.
Overseer Frank Ross, of the Cove
road section, is in full accord with the
road improvement idea of the county
court and will aim to keep his dis
trict up to the hour as to improve
ments. He has spiral piping for cul
verts and the same will take the place
of wooden bumpers as fast as possible.

The North Powder News says:
The M. & M. Co. shipped two cars
of flour to Grass valley the fore part
of the week.

iting with Mrs. L. S. Cool since Sun
day night of this week.
Norman R. Hogan and Miss Clara
Meyers of North Powder were mar
ried at La Grande Saturday at 11
m.
Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Ghormley of
Pendleton are visiting at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. L. S. Cool since Monday
night of this week.
Mrs. A. L. Boylan of Twin Falls was
an arrival last Friday and will visit
with her sister-in-law, Mrs. J. H.
Monn, for a week or more.
Twenty cars of sheep were shipped
in from Enterprise by F. W. Falconer
to be fed for a few weeks then they
will be shipped to Chicago market.
The Kiverdale Sunday School has
purchased an organ for their use. The
schol is prosperous, new members be
ing added at every meeting.
James Massie, wife and sons were
arrivals from Carbondale, Colo., Mon
day. They are on a homeseeking tour
and will likely settle somewhere in
Union county.
Fred Cool and wife and daughter of
Council, Idaho, were visiting with Mr.
Cool's brother, the News editor, the
fore part of the week. They drove
over with a Maxwell.
Mrs. A. Cool, sr., who has been vis
iting with L. S. Cool and family for
the (past few weeks, departed for
Council, Idaho, Tuesday where she
will remain with another son, Fred
Cool, during the winter.
J. C. Tinney, who has been at the
home of Mike Correl for the past
week under the care of Dr. Irvine for
an abscess on his right leg, was able
to be taken to his home on Tucker
Flat Wednesday of this week much
improved m health.

Mrs. Eula Dougherty and little daugh
ter, Dorothy, arrived Monday evening
from Enterprise for an indefinite visit
with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Dick
Peebler.
Mrs. J. S. Butner's children enter
tained all of the young folks of tho
neighborhood at her home Hallowe'en
night in a delightful manner. Of
course they thought their sport in
complete until they "went out" but
they used their good judgment and
had a full evening of pranks without
molesting anyone's property.
Mrs. Albert Kinney and daughter,
Vinnic, camo over from Joseph Sun
day evening for a wesk's visit with
her sister, Mrs. Mar Counsell and
hunsiind, Albert Kinney, who has tho
contract for Mrs. Counsell's new
house. They have the house shingled
and enclosed and are now lathing pre
paratory to plastering.
A little girl was bom to Mr. and
Mrs. Luther Geiger on the evening
of Oct. 20. Both Mrs. Geiger and the
baby are doing well.
Mesdames Dick Peebler and Chns,
Gramly entertained the members of
tho Get-to-gcther club at the home of
Mrs. Peebler, Oct. 19. Mrs. Clarence
McAlexander was a gracious host to
tho same club Oct. 20.
Miss Louisa Counsell has kept her
pupils in a happy mood by drilling
them for a Hallowe'en program,
which they gave preceding a pie so
cial. The school house was packed
with people and bidding on the pics
was brisk from start to finish, the
youngsters paying as much as thirty
five cents and the men as high as
$1.60 for a pie. All kinds of pies were
to bo had and everyone had their fill
of pie and sweet cider. Twenty dol
lars was realized whicfi will be con
tributed to the piano fund for the
school house. Big doings' are to ba
commenced at once for Thanksgiving.
