AMERICAN VOt'TH ENDURING
New Orleans Boy Simply Won't Quit
Fighting in European Trenches.
London. Oct. 20. (United Press)
There's an eighteen-year-cld Ameri
can in the Eritish army who simply
refuses to quit fighting.
He is Norman Bruce Wallis, of New
Orleans.
The British War Office, the Ameri
can Embassy and his parents tried
twice to make the young Southerner
quit and return home but he evaded
them all.
When Uncle Sam's official first in-'
duced the War Office to VH ease Wallis
fiom his regiment, he tcSSc his dis
charge and promised to sail for New
Orleans. But he missed his ship and
promptly enlisted in another regi
ment The first process was soon repeated
and Embassy officials engaged the
boy's passage on a ship bound direct
for New Orleans. He was installed
in the home of some friends until the
ship sailed. The ship, however, sailed
without him. Wallis returned to his
old regiment one which hailed from
the Scottish "heelands" and wears
kilts. On his arrival he was arrested
! for desertion. The American embassy
again came to his rescue with official
explanations.
Today, Wallis known in the army
as Norman MacGregoT Brace is with
his unit in Northern France, ready to
resist either officials or Germans.
