Last Day of "The Tortured Heart.'
In tho quaint setting of an old-fashioned
Southern church is enacted a
scene of pretty effect in William Fox's
photodrama, "A Tortured Heart,"
starring Virginia Pearson. The Rev.
Joseph Lorimoro (Stephen Grattan),
village pastor finds a foundling on the
steps of his church, and tho towns
people scorn his interest in the child,
who grows up to bo a charming young
woman, a part taken by Marian
Swnyne.
In the rectory parlor the spinsters
of the little town assemble to see the
baby.
From this point the story unfolds
its tale of tho evils of gossip, unchar
itablcness and all that these unwhole
some qualities bring in "heart tor
ture." Stuart Holmes in his villain
ous part as Leon Mullcr, does his best
to bring suffering to the characters
and his power of evil seems at first
greater than the kindly parson'3
power for good.

producton of "Tho Dream Girl," a
thrilling, whimsical stcry written es
pecially for the Paramount Program
by Janie MacPherson, tho brilliant
photodramatist, and produced under
the personal direction of Cecil B. De
Mille, Lasky Company Director-General.
As Lady Jocelyn Leigh in "To Have
and to Hold," Miss Murray made her
screen debut and scored a pronounced
success. Again as the mischievous
widow in "Sweet Kitty Bellairs," Bhe
increased her popularity and estab
lished herself as a photodramatic ar
tist of distinction. But as the little
child of the slums in "The Dream
Girl," she is said to have surpassed
any of her previous triumphs.
The story has to do with a little
child of the slums who, believing her
dissolute father killed, runs awny
from her tenement home. In an ash
barrel sho has found n dilapidated
volume of "King Arthur and His
Knights of the Round Table," and her
romantic brain pictures Sir Galahad
coming to rescue her.
Lured by tho dance music from tho
house next to the orphanage, where
a fancy dress ball is being held, sho
climb3 over the wall and there in the
garden comes faco to face with her
Knight.
How she is taken from the orphan
age, saves her sweetheart's sister
from the clutches of an unscrupulous
crook, again encounters her father
and eventually is united with the nian
she loves, is brought about by a series
of unusual incidents.
