nearby, sees a man kiss Bryan and
discovers Myra.
When Bryan returns, he tells Myra
of his intention in coming to America,
and she, realizing that she will lose
Bryan if she tells all sho knows, con
quers herself and decides to get the
papers for him.
Myra enters Huntley's, hut the fol
lowing day and finds him dying on the
floor. She obtains some of the papers
and many days later she obtains
the rest from Rutten on consideration
that she return to him after Bryan
goes back to England. But she never
has to fulfill her promises.

'The
Pauline Frederick Supreme in
World 8 Great Snare
Pauline Frederick, whose splendid
dramatic performances in previous
Famous Players productions has won
her the undisputed title "Frederick
the Great," doe3 the most tremendous
work of her distinguished career in
that company's adaptation of E. Phil
lips Oppenhcim's celebrated novel,
"The World's Great Snare," which is
the Paramount Picture at the Arcade
today and tomorrow.
tin an English cottage lies an old
lady, her son, Bryan, is at her side
waiting for her to breathe her last.
She calls him to her and imparts to
him the startling information that he
is not her son, telling him how, as a
ibaby, he was left on the doorstep of
the Earl of Wesscmere by the Earl's
abused wife. Huntley, the butler, had
picked the infant up and brought him
to his master. A note disclosed the
identity of the' child to the butler, and
Huntley had been ordered to give the
baby to some woman. The old lady
confessed she is Huntley's mother and
that her son has the proofs of Bryan's
birth.
Huntley lives in San Francisco with
his wife, who loathes him for his
drunken temper and cruel treatment.
She finds the Earl's marriage certifi
cate among her husband's papers, but
it is snatched from her before she can
grasp its meaning. Myra, Huntley's
wife, is tired of his brutality and asks
her former employer and proprietor of
the Montana cafe for her old position
as dancer and 31'nger. Meantime her
husband goes to the home of Amies
Rutton, a successful gambler and a
creditor of his, and endeavors to set
tle a portion of his debt with the val
uable papers proving Bryan's right to
the Earldom. Kutten accepts these on
condition that Huntley leave his wife.
Rutten enters Huntley's home and
finds Myra packing her valise; he
tries to induce her to come to him but
she refuses. She then proceeds to the
Montana cafe where she performs her
dances.
Rutten entices her up to his box on
the balcony and attempts to kiss her.
Bryan is sitting downstairs, discour
aged after a fruitless search for Hunt
ley, when he hears a stifled cry from
Rutten's box. He springs to Myra's
rescue, the two men have a terrific
fight and finally the railing gives way
and they fall on the tables below.
From that time on, Myra and Bryan
become infatuated with each other,

Bryan gives her a suit of men's
clothes to replace her tattered gar-,

"Half a Rogue."
This five-reel Rd Feather produc
tion was adapted by Henry Otto, who
also directed the picture, from the
well known "best seller" by Harold
MacGrath. It provides an excellent
medium for King Baggot, a long time
favorite, whose appearance as Rich
ard Warrington is one of the best
things he has done in a long while.
He is assisted by Clara Beyers, as
Katherine; Joseph Castallaneous as
John Bennington; Edna Hunter as
Patty; and Howard Crampton as the
political boss.
The producer has provided a unique
opening , picturing Warrington as a
playwright fond of dining in a certain
Broadway restaurant.
Warrington is recognized by Kath
erine, also dining in the place. She
pretends to have lost her purse and
enlists his aid in getting home.
An acquaintance formed in this
chance way grows into an actual
friendship, which extends over five
years. In this time Katherine has
starred in Warrington's new play.
ishe falls in love with Bennington,
who narrowly misses finding her in
Warrington's apartments. Later,
when Warrington runs for office in a
small town, is made the basis for a
campaign scandal. But Bennington,
now married to Katherine, retains his
faith in both his wife and his friend.
and the latter's name is cleared. War
rington loses in the race for office but
wins the girl he loves.
J he story is brightly entertaining
and contains a good deal of sane optimism.
