Ann Penington, the celebrated little
Broadway star, makes her motion pic
ture debut in the Famous Players pro
duction, "Susie Snowflake," which is
the Paramount attraction at the Ar
cade theatre today and tomorrow.
Known all over the country as dancer
and comedienne, Miss Penington has
been wisely starred in a photoplay
which is a story of musical comedy
life, thus giving her the greatest op
portunity to display her far-famed
talen on the screen.
The Pendleton family consists of
three girls and their sedate father.
Martha is the eldest, Phoebe the next
and Susan the youngest. The digni
fied family lives in the Quaker-like
village of Crescent, where everything
is peace and quiet; little Susie, unlike
actor who is playing in the village,
and finally consents to elope with him.
The family is shocked at Susie's act,
and her father's death is the result of
her folly. Thus the foundation is laid
for the interesting otory.
Edmund Breese will also begin
work within the next week or so on
another production at the Popular
Plays and Players studio. He was
last seen on the Metro program in
"The Spell of the Yukon."

Pendleton, Or., Aug. 24. The
Rouna-up seat sale for the 1916 show,
September 21 to 23, will open in Pen
dletcn September 2, according to Sec
retary Charles H. Marsh. Out-of-town
reservations are being filled as
they are received. The reservations
this year are greater than any year
since 1913 and indications point to the
largest crowd in the history of the
Round-Up.
The opening of the sale to Pendle
ton people is always an interesting af
fair when residents to get the choicest
seats for the exhibition take their
beds and camp at the ticket window
all night before the morning of the
sale. Half the grandstand has been
set aside for the out-of-town people
and a half for the Umatilla county
visitors and Pendleton people.
"Mister 44," a story of the great
Canadian woods, is now in the film
ing at the recently acquired Metro
Yorke studio in Hollywood. The ex
teriors will be made in the vicinity
of Lake Tahoe, California. Harold
Lockwood and May Allison are
starred in the five-act production. It
is a picturization of the novel by E.
J. Rath, who is also the author of
the book from which the scenario of
"The River of Romance," a recent
Metro-Yorke release was written.
"Mister 44" is under the direction of
Henry Otto, and will be the first to
be produced in . California by the
Metro-Yorke corporation.
New York, Aug. 28. Apparently
someone went wrong when arrange
ments were being made for the big
eastern football games this fall. A
glance today at the schedules of Yale
and Harvard Universities and the
Army and Navy team is enough to
prove this. Ordinarily Yala and Har
vard meet in their annual gridiron
battle on Saturday preceding Thanks
giving, and Army and Navy do their
historic stunt the following Saturday.
This year, however, the schedule
makers have seen things differently
and the two big games will be staged
the same day Yale .and Harvard in
the Yale bowl at New Haven, and the
Army and Navy at New York. The
football season this year is going to
start just a little ahead of the con
ventional time. The University of
California will usher in the season of
ficially on Sept. 16. Seven days later
Harvard, Dartmouth and Georgetown
will be seen in action. Also, the sea-
I son will be a bit longer this year than
is the custom, the last game not being
scheduled until Dec. 9. Important
Thanksgiving day games include Cor
nell and Pennsylvania in the east;
Vanderbilt vs. University of the South
and Kentucky vs. Tennessee in the
South; Nebraska vs. Notre Dame;
California vs. Washington, and South
ern "aiifornia vs. Oregon Aggies in
.the West.

Freddie Welsh has nothing but
praise for Benny Leonard since his
last meeting, with the New York star.
He says he has a wholesome respect
for Leonard's ability. A page from
history reveals the reason. Benny
once made the champion look like a
novice.

At Sherry's Tomorrow Beautiful
Bluebird.
Tho arrival of "The Love Girl" at
the Sherry theatre on Tuesday will
bring one of the brightest stars of
Bluebird Photoplays to interpret the
leadinsr role. Klla Hall shared hon
ors with Robert Leonard in an earlier
BlueMrd, "The Crippled Hand," but
in "The Love Girl" she will negotiate
the sU'liar honors to the delight of
thousands who have admired her work
in previous ' service.
Master Harry Dopp is likewise sure
to win admiration for his work, in as
sociation with Miss Hall, in the sev
eral interesting and exciting scenes
in which they jointly participate.
These two skillful younK players are
seen together in a majority of the epi
sodes in the photoplay, and it de
volves upon them to turn the entire
plot from a beginning of promised dis
tressful sequence to the happiest of
outcomes.
There is a novel subject for photo
playing introduced during the pro
gress ci "The Love Girl," when Hindu
mystics serve to well-nigh ups'et the
calculations of everybody concerned.
I Just how the Bhuddist faith is mis
1 applied and made the subject of vil
i lainy comprises an element that lifts
; this Bluebird feature out of the ordin
ary and makes it match the other fea
tures in the successful scries as a play
of unusual merit.
I Sensationalism abounds for those
I who enjoy excitement, but these fea
tures by no means predominate. The
most vital interest in the feature is
likely to accrue from the perfectly
human, natural and appealing work of
Miss Hall and Master Depp in pre
senting the role of two splendidly
equipped children healthful, clean
minded, playful, and yet just a little
bit mischievous kiddies, who do thing?
for the love of doing them, and finally
surpass their elders in doing the right
thing at the right time.
