Fanny grange will give a social for
the young people Saturday evening,
Aug. 26 at the Shanghai school house.
Games will be the order of the even
ing. Refreshments to be served will
be sandwiches, cake and roasted
weenies and marshmallows. Every
thing is free and the invitation is
pen to all.
Loten Conklin has a new Overland.
Mrs. Herbert Stevens is visiting her
sister Mrs. Lou Payne and other rela
tives and friends.
Miss Vera Pease entertained a few
of her friends Monday evening.
D. T. Fox, of Turner, Mont., has
been visiting at the home of Frank
Brown for a few days.
E. J. Payne, wife and two daugh
ters of Walla Walla, are visiting his
mother, Mrs. Lou Payne.
Mrs. Motly is here visiting for a
few days.
Mrs. C. E. Proctor and family of
North Dakota and Mrs. A. H. Feld
man of Portland have been visiting
their father A. IS. Daniels for the past
month. Mrs. Proctor and family re
turned home Friday.

Marcus Paglierc today denied the re
port that the 'Radical party soon to

Poor Little Rich Boy
Nyack, N. Y., Aug. 25. Willie
Crossman Lee, "the poor little rich
boy" who cried and said he was
"tired of being dragged around the
country" by relatives interested in the
$2,000,000 estate he inherits from the
late William Crossman, coffee king,
will shift guardians again hero today.
Supreme Court Justice Tompkins
decided that De Witt H. Kenyon, Port
Chester lawyer, must return the boy
ti Mrs. Emma Kenyon Lee, mother of
Frederick T. Lee of White Plains,
stepfather of the boy.
The battle for possession of the 2
million dollar boy has waged hotly for
more than a year in the New York
courts between William Mills, Jr., of
California, father of the boy and Lee,
his stepfather. His father started
seven separate actions to get the boy
and the management of his estate, but
lost every one.
The boy's mother, who divorced
Mills and married Lee, died in New
York 2 years ago. Testimony at the
hearing said that Mills never had
taken any interest in his son until
he inherited the estate of the coffee
king. The boy testified that his
mother had impressed on him the de
sirability of remaining with his step
father. The dawyer had bten appointed
guardian a few months ago, and the
boy taken away from Lee. Lee and
his mother hid the boy and were haled
into court. It is expected that they,
will now be permitted to keep him.

Girl's Heroism Fatal.
In the effort to save her seven year
old sister, Ethel, f mm drowning in the
Columbia near Lyle, Miss Myrtle
Gutcher, need 14, sacrificed her own
life. Ethel was rescued by a farmer
and resuscitated, but the older sister
who iias been in the water 45 minutes
could not be revived.
