ARC A DE
NEW ONE COMING
Peggy Hyland, Noted English Favor
ite, .Makes American Photoplay
Debut in "Saints and
Sinners."
Miss Peggy Hyland, the beautiful
and talented little English actress,
whose recent arrival in America to
appear exclusively on the screen un
der the management of the Famous
Players Film Co., has created con-1
siderable newspaper comment, makes
her doubt to the American public in
a thrilling pi'cturization of Henry Ai- i
thur Jones' noted dramatic success,
"Saints and Sinners." This current
release on the Paramount Program
will be shown at the Arcade todays
and tomorrow. j
' It is a matter of odd' interest that
Miss Hyland. who has distinguished j
herself abroad in the stellar roles of j
many stage successes, should appear
in her first American screen offering
in an Englishman's play, and a drama I
moreover, that won its first success j
in Europe, repeating its stage tri-i
umph later inthe United States.
Miss Hyland, in the leading role of
Letty Fletcher, the only daughter of
the Minister of Steepleford, went with
a selected east of Famous Players,
headed by Director .las Kirkwood, to
the most beautiful sections of Flor
ida for the purpose of filming this
superb drama.
When the story opens, Letty is a
contented little village maid, living
with her father and Lydia, their
housekeeper. She is the life of the
little family, and by her innocent
pranks keeps the two old folks young.
George Kingsmill, a fanner, is vainly
calling on Letty for her hand in mar
riage, to the regret of her father,
the Minister. Letty, like most coun
try girls, has a desire to see the city,
and is attracted to Captain Fanshawe,
a gentleman of wordly experience and
questionable reputation. The Rev.
Fletcher and George finally persuade
her to refrain from meeting the in
terloper again.
At the annual church picnic, Fan
shawe again appears and invites Let
ty to accompany him for a row on
the river ,as he intends to leave the
town forever. It becomes very latcj
Fanshawe offers to take her home by
train, which she also consents to.
However, the Captain secures tickets
for New York, not for Steepleford.
Letty realizes her predicament too
late, she is already on her way.
Through the treachery of Hoggard,
their only witness, the Minister loses
his position at the church. George
after a journey to the west, returns
with a fortune and marries lA'tty.
Happiness again reigns supreme when
the congregation reinstates their be
loved preacher. adv.
