OFTEN
By one of those strange combina
tions by which the motion pictuie
camera occasionally performs extra
ordinary "stunts," Mae Murry before
the camera became Mary Pickford,
when the picture was projected on the
screen. If it seems like an impossible
coincidence the accompanying photo- j
.graph tells the story.
During the making of the Lasky-,
lphotopluy, lhe Dream Girl, for the
Paramount Program, Cecil 15. DcMilla,
the director, assembled a group of
girls in the playground of a Los An
' geles School. The scene was to rep
resent the young women of an or
phanage, and, lo, Mae Murray was
placed on the outside, fourth from the
front.
The Lasky star wore her curls and '
her cutest expression, and her cos
tume was of a forlorn little orphan
whom no!,ody loved.
- When the film was ready for pre
sentation the special audience gasped
in amazement. For all the world
-Mae looked like Mary.
