GOOD MIXTURE OF BOXING
SEKN BY MEMBERS.
; Disposition to Work Hard and Please
j Shown by All Actors.
'It was a uloomin gooa show that
1 given by the Motor club last evening
lor members unci visiting riders.
; Commencing about 1) o'clock in the
' evening the fun and amusement con-
untied until the stroke of 12. As a
boxing card, it excelled, easily, any
purely boxing program in La Grande
tor a long, long time. Referee
Emahiser was introduced before 9
o'clock and until nearly 11 was busy
calling up events that kept the inter
est at white heat. The performances
displayed advanced heavy and light
weight science and unscientific milling
but through it all a good clean spoil,
livery actor worked nard.
"Lynx" 'Larsen and Davy Johnson
were the first performers they
milled it every inch of the way and
put up a fine exhibition of give and
take. Honors were about even with
Johnson landing tne oftenest but not
with the power that Larsen did on
his more scattered blows.
Bobby Kent, about 140 of Portland,
had the best of a stiff argument with
Jimmy Dunham who was lighter, and
Chlough a fairly good defensive fighter
the more scienced and aggressive foe.
Bobby Lyman and Eddie Ford
brought out the best "science of the
evening when Lyman toyed with his
opponent. The bantam ex-champion
put on some of the classiest foot, ihead
and arm work seen in a long time
hereabouts, and from time to time
punched Ford hard to demonstrate
he has a punch. Lyman's catlike '
agility brought out the admiration of j
the spectators. (
Vic berger, the heavyweight, who
fights tonight, then grilled it up with
Lyman for several rounds, and this
bout furnished good exhibition of :
scientific boxing tho heavier, surer
type of the 'heavy man, and the light
ning passes, dodging and ducking of
the lighter.
Berger also took on Pat Foley and
George Noble for a couple of rounds
each and these events kept the audi
ence on edge with amusement, and,
incidentally, they saw some clovea
boxing too.
In between acts shadow loxing and
some clever rope skipping had been
exhibited by bofih Berger and Lyman,
Urn latter especially introducing sev
eral intricate skip movements.
At this point the meeting adjourned
to the Foley grill.
Over the festal visiting riders and
club members were introduced and
visited, each of the half score riders
present arising and speaking a few
words. Race Manager Neal presided
at the introduction of riders; Chase
Rofrnonkump related briefly the his
tory of the club; the financial end
was discussed by Harley Richardson.
After that numerous visitors, club
members, boxers and riders were
called on and the pleasant evening
was brought to a close just about the
time Friday was peeping over the
clock. The entertainment committee
with Secretary E. Vehrs at its Ihead
was fittingly showered with compli
ments on the evening's program.
Oh Pshaw!
The censor said he'd cut the scene,
Because a wintry breeze,
As it went whistling down tho vale,
Shook limbs of naked trees.
