AT THE MOVIES
AT ARCADE
- Marie Doro Alain Triumphant.
Marie Doro, whose motion picture
debut m the humous I'luyers produc
tion "The Morals of Marcus," ami
Mubsequetit appearance in the aim
company's "The White Pearl,"
stamped her as one of the most win
some and altogether charming ac
tresses on the screen, will shortly be
seen in the Famous Players-Charles
Frohmun adaptation of the celebrated
Kardou drama "diplomacy," which will
lie the Paramount picture at the Ar
cade tonight and tomonrow.
This is by no means the first time
that Marie - Doro has played in
"Dinlomacv." ns she was co-star with
'William Gillette and Blanche Bates
- in the stage version of the play at
the Empire Theatre, Now York, last
year. At thut time she wus declared
by the New York critics to be the real
tain of the production, as her work
in the role of Dora the some one
which she plays in the motion picture
was the most finished and most de-
'liffhtful of all. One of them ex
pressed it as follows: "It is Marie
Doro who is the star of all stars in
the play. She is not only an actress
; of rare charm, equal alike to light
comedy and tense situations, but she
is unusually beautiful. 'In the scene
hi which, her husband nukes it known
that sho is suspected of being a spy,
of having betrayed Count Orion and
of having stolen the precious docu
ments, she is the central figure and
carries the entire burden of the action
and character portrayal."
In support of Miss Doro there ap
pear such distinguished players as
Eliott Dexter. Edith Campbell Walk
er, Kussell Bassett, Frank Losce ami
George Majcroni.
"The-Nc'er Do Well."
"The Nd'cr-Do-Wcll," by Rex
Beach, the Selig spectacular dram.,
filmed by the Selig Polyscope com
pany, features Wheeler Oakman and
Kathlyn Williams and an all-star cast.
The hero is Kirk Anthony, a college
graduate, a veteran football player,
and, since graduation the coach of his
university team. On the evening fol
lowing a football victory, the last of
the season, Kirk and others start out
to celebrate. Late that night he finds
himself on shipboard, and when he
awakens he is without money and no
baggage. During tha voyage Kirk
becomes acquainted with a -woman a
Mrs. Stephen Cortlandt whom he
learns to udmire very much. She is
really a diplomatic agent of great in
fluence. One day wmle Kirk is out
hunting he meets in a forost bower,
a Spanish girl who is known only us
"Chiquita." He falls desperately in
love with her, und'tries vainly to dis
cover her identity. The story of his
making gowk, of bis winning of Chi
quit despite the counter-plotting') of
Mrs. Cortlandt, of the clearing of his
name, and of the final decisive inter
vention in Panamanian affair of old
Darwin K. Anthony, rs strongly en
grossing and varied by many richly
numerous episodes. Chiquita is by
far the most charming feminine char
acter Rex Beach has drawn, and
Kathlyn Williams as Edith Cortlandt
is an exceedingly uonvincing and fas
cinating type. "The Ne-er-Do-Well"
will be shown on Sunday and Monday
at the Arcade theatre.

l-ast Time Today.
Hundreds of great authors have
striven in all modern civilizations to
put on paper in enduring form a
forceful and perfect delineation of
fear. Very few of these, whether lit
erary celebrities or lesser writers,
have succeeded in a way to make their
work memorable.
But where other aui.hc.rs have failml
the writer of the newest William Fox
feature film. "The Marble Heart." has
succeeded beyond every expectation.
"The Marble Heart" is the greatest
story of fear ever written in the his
tory of literature.
It is not often that a motion pic
ture theme is made so visible that it
becomes almost audible in its intens
ity. But when you see the picture
vou are almost certain to be held so
, tightly under the spell of the story
ithat at almost any moment you ax
l pert to hear the sound of , human
