show the defendant's name.
The report of Referee Charles M.
Russel, of 50 Church street, showed
that David M. Carvalho, handwriting
expert, testified that the signature
"John Best and wife," written on
one of the pages had been inscribed
by the defendant.
The name of the co-respondent was
not made known, the records being
scaled under the order of the Supreme
Court.
The Earles were married on No
vember 15 1905. v
In November 1914 they separated.
Some time later Mrs. Earlo began her
suit for divorce.
A letter from Earle to the plaintiff
was introduced. It read in parte as fol

Veteran Returns Bible. , 4
Chattanooga, Tenn., April 29. J. W.
White, a lawyer, has just recovered
the old family Bilble belonging to his
father which was taken from tile fam
ily home at Talladega, Ala., in July,
1864, by a Federal soldier, a member
of Bousseau's raiders. The Bible was
returned to the Postmaster at Talla
dega and sent by him to White in !
Chattanooga. The return td Bible was
accompanied by a letter from W. R.
I Smethens, of Odgen, Utah, in which he
'wrote that he had long contemplated
lireturning the Bible, but had neglected
f to do so. The Bible contains the fam-
j uy record of the original owner.

"Pauper" Who Died From His Own

Erie, Pa., April 22. Settlement of
the estate of Arthur B. Churchill, bet
ter known as "Old Jim" has brought
to light the fact that, while he lived on
charity and died supposedly a pauper,

will be divided between two nephews,

lived alone in a tumbledown shack.
Those who knew him believed he was
poverty stricken, and John H. Walker.
