AT THE MOVIES
AT ARCADE.
Fannie Ward, the distinguished
American star, who scored such a
triumph in the Jesse L. Lasky pro
duction of "The Marriajre of Kitty"
and "The Cheat" will be seen as
"Tennessee" at the Arcade tonight and
tomorrow.
According to those who have seen
the picture, it is the best work of her
entire career. It is a Paramount pic
ture. The Lasky company have been able
to maintain the wonderful atmosphere
and spirit of the early Western days
. throughout the picture. Most of the
scenes were taken in, or near, the lit
tle towns where the author laid the
scenes of his story. The old stage
coach in which "Tennessee" makes
her journey to her supposed "Daddy"
is one of the few relics of pioneer
methods of transportation left in this
country and was found, after a dili
gent search, in an out of . the way
Rtable in one of the abandoned towns
in Nevada.
The cast supporting Miss Ward is
one of unusual excellence and consists
of such well known artists as Jack
Dean, Charles Clary, Jessie Arnold,
Raymond Hatton and others.
From a photographic standpoint the
production is said to be unusual, the
company spending many days in the
rugged Sierras for the filming of the
beautiful exterior scenes. The Lasky
company considers "Tennessee's Pard
ner" one of its best productions.
AT SHERRY'S LAST DAY.
"Merely Mary Ann"
One can get real enjoyment from
"Merely Mary Ann," a Fox picture in
five reels by Israel Zangwil. Merely
Mary Ann is quite a compelling young
miss of 17. And as the pretty young
actress, Vivian Martin, sets her forth,
she has such a wholesome atmosphere
of sentiment that is sincere affection,
of capacity for gladness and of inno
cence about her, that bravely buckling
down to the hard jibs of a slavey in a
l :
lodging house, she seems like a golden
ray of Fairyland shining through to
a hard world. The effect is often po
etical to a degree. It is a picture that
will do credit to any exhibitor.
The story, not sensationally novel,
is fresh with many a bit of humanity
that has never been shown before ni
seems as new as though it never had
and this is all that the producer de
sired. It is a picture that merely
uses life; it doesn't set out to draw
things as they are, but to draw a con
trast between things as they are, and
in, Merely Mary Ann, just there and
nowhere else, just in her own "corner
of the picture, things as we would like
to think they are. And the ending is
as happy as that of "Cinderella." No
matter what the world really is or
what it may become, the happy ending
will always remain legitimate as long
as humans are born young and tiiave
to grow' up. Folks look at this kind
of a picture until they forgot they, too,
were once young, and grew up.

Judging from 'advance notices re
ceived from various sources through
out the country, the film fans of La
Grande are ifl be congratulated upon
tihe opportunity offered them to sec
two Triangle productions that far sur
passes anything' shown here recently.
"Old Heidelberg," the new live part
feature supervised by D. W. Griffith
for the Triangle program was made
famous in this counlry by the stellar
appearances in it of Richard Mansfield
and Aubrey Boucicault. In the orig
inal German it enjoyed extraordinary
popularity on the other side, and that
popularity lhas been duplicated here.
"Old Heidelberg"- in its plot is just
a simple little story of love and war
characterized by the quaint Geiman
atmosphere of university court and
palace with Dorothy Gish and Wallace
Keid heading the cast.
Following this feature comes the
big treat for the children and all lov
ers of clean wholesome fun.
Eddie Foy, the prince of stage
pierrots, wfho has made more fun with
his clowning and his acrobatics than
any other comedian of the present
day, together with his entire family
of seven little Foys will be seen in
the Keystone farce "A Favorite Fool"
a dramatization of circus life similar
to some of the stage plays in which
Mr. Foy was so popular.
