Many Union county people will read
with interest the text of President
Joseph F. Smith's attack qn modem
dress for women, Riven at the clos
ing session of the recent L. D. S. con
ference in Suit Lake. The Deseret
News cover the attack in these
words:
Scathing denunciation by Prest.
Joseph F. Smith of the prevailing
fashions in women's dress, together
with vehement renrcach for the
"daughters of -Zion" that permit them
selves to be led into "imitation of the
garb of the demi-monde" constituted
a dramatic conclusion last night of
the semi-annual conference of the
Deseret Sunday School Union. In an
assembly that filled to capacity . the
tabernacle, including the choir seats,
P; est. Smith pronoun .red tile late fash
ions for women the "products of
houses of infamy," and pleaded with
the girls and women of the church to
refrain from their adoption.
f ollowing his regular closing no-
dress at the conference, in which he
had declaied the gathering tho larg
est in tho history of the Sunday
School movement, Prest. Smith
begged indulgence to touch upon a
topic foreign to Sunday School af
fairs. Without further preliminnries,
ho launched upon an arraignment of
modem fashions, declaring himself
ashamed of them, and adding that
their creation was wholly for the pur
pose of inviting licentiousness and for
the gratification of the lust of scoun
drels who stand ready to defile any
thing nnd eveiything sacred."
"You will pardon me if. I speak for
a moment on a topic entirely foreign
to Sundav School work r.nd Sunday
School subjects," said Prest. Smith af
ter concluding his remarks about the
progress of the Sunday School move
ment. "I wish to enter my protest
against the prevailing fashions for
women. Fashions that are not only
ridiculous but shameful, suggestive
and disgraceful to the modesty of men
who have any -regard for themselves
and womankind.
"To say that I am ashamed of the
clothing of some of tho daugh,ta:8 of
Zion is to sneak my mind mildly. I
know I stand condemned by those
that love the fashions of Babylon.
"The fashions worn by some of our
women today had their origin in tha
houses of 'infamv in Paris nnd London
and other great centers. Innocent
people ftere and elsewhere fall into
the habit of imitating those fallen.
infamous- women in their manners ot
dress, creatures who live by enticing
the lust of men. Our girls. have not
wisdom enough to stop imitating
these creatures, and many of them are
wearing the fashions created for the
gratification of the lust of scoundrels
that stand ready at any time to defile
everything sacred.
"I enter my protest against my
daughters following such fashions,
and I thank God that thus far none
of them have. I pray that our other
grils and women may refrain from
'adopting them r.Iso.

Order for a Million Feet to Be
Shipped by Rail.
Portland, April ' 12. One million
feet of lieavy construction timber is
being shroped to New York from
Portland by Sullivan & Forbes, whole
sale lumber dealers of this city and
New York.
' The material will make the journey
across the continent by rail and tho,
freight rate on this class is $24.75 a
thousand feet. The fact that the con
sumers ire willing to pay the rail
rate, is taken as indicative of the
strong demand for large timbers on
the Atlantic coast.
iWith the opening of the Panama
canal it is expected that a large busi
ness in Douglas fir on the Atlantic
coast will be woiked up providing
vessels are obtainable.

IF KIDNEYS ACT
BAD TAKE SALTS
Says Backache is a sign you have bean
eating too much meat, which

When you S'ake up with backache and
dull misery in the kidney region it gen
erally means you have been eating too
much meat, says a well-known authority.
Meat forms uric acid which overworks
the kidncva in their effort to filter It
from the blood and they become sort of
paralyzed and loggy. When your kidneys
get sluggish and clog you must relieve
them, like you relieve your bowels j re
moving all tha body's urinous waste,
elsi you hare backache, sick headache,
dizzy spells; your stomach sours, tongue
is coated, and when the weather is bad
you havo rheumatic twinges. Tlie urine
is cloudy, full of sediment, channels often
get sore, water scalds and you are obliged
to seek relief two or three times during
the night.
Either consult a good, reliable physi
cian at once or get from your pharmacist
about four ounces of Jad Salts; take
a tablespoonful in a glass of water
before breakfast for a few days and your
kidneys will then act fine. This famous
salts is made from the acid of grapes
and lemon juice, combined with ltthia,
and has been used for generations to
clean and stimulate sluggish kidneys,
also to neutralize acids in the urine so it
no longer irritates, thus ending bladder
; weakness.
Jad Salts is a life savor for regular
' meat eaters. It is inexpensive, cannot
j injure and makes a delightful, euer
, veaceot lithia-witer drink.
