Douglas Fairbanks as "The Lamb"
The Lamb, the celebrated character
in which Douglas Fairbanks has
toured the country with great success,
will be presented in an entirely new
play at the Arcade tonight and to
morrow. The event marks Mr. Fair
banks' debut as a screen start here,
which promises to duplicate the big
hit he scored in "The Lamb" in New
York,
The type as the familiar New York
one of a dandified youth who has yet
to find himself. He is exiled to the
western wilds by the coldness of his
sweetheart, who does not think he is
enough of a man. The young New
Yorker hus a misadventure in getting
off the train in Arizona. He is trans
ported across the Mexican border and
gets mixed up in an unpleasantness
between the federals and the Yaquis.
There he discovers his sweetheart also
a prisoner of the savage Yaquis. They
handle a machine gun with ireadly ef
fect against the redskins.
Some of the finest battle scenes pre
sented on the film stage are to be
seen in "The Lamb." In fact, it has
J been described as a miniature "Birth
of a Nation."
.Raymond Hitchcock in "My Valet."
I Raymond Hitchcock, who has been
a laugh in musical comedy, since the
,days of "Tihte Yankee Consul," ha3
i yielded to the lure of motion pictures
, and will be seen at the. Arcade Wed
nesday and Thursday in his first Key
. stone farce, "My Valet." The com
. edian has taken with him into the
j films nil that natural humor which has
made Mm so successful in flesh and
blood productions. . His facial expres
sion, funny walk and gestures and
farcial forelock are all there. With
them re Mack Sennett, creator of
Keystone comedy, and some of his
foremost funmakers and practical
.jokers, including Mabel Normand and
Fred Mace. ;
I The action of the farce begins on
the train which is carrying Hitchcock
and his valet, Sennett, to the Pacific
coast. Many ludicrous situations are
: provided in their compartment on the
train. Arriving in California, fcbrills
are added to the action. As they are
riding in a motor to their hotel, Mabel
Normand on a (runaway horse dashes
by. Hitchcock makes a daring leap
from the car to the back of the run
away and saves the young woman's
life. The finish must be seen to be
appreciated.
The farce ends with Hitchcock's
thrilling parachute ride through the
air, his drop into the sea and rescue
of the lady of his heart. Sennett and
Mace receive the due of all good vil-lians.

tion in New York, May 22.

men workers in the United States.
There are 203,315 stenographers and
typewriters. M.Ofil women linotype
operators, 2,530,846 domestics, 1.820,
980 factory and mill girls. 70,508 train
ed nurses, 111.117 midwives, 88,262
hello girls. Eighty per cent of our
teachers arc women, also two thirds of
our cotton mill workers, one-third of
our hat suit and overall mnkers, one
fif.h of our tailors, one-third of our
shoemakers'. Women have been found
working before the flaming doors of
blast furnaces in Pennsylvania.
