"Green Stockings," the latest Blue
Ribbon Feature to be released by the
Vitag-iaph Company of America main
tains the high standard of excellence
set by this class of film classics. It
numbers in its cast the greatest col
lection of motion picture stars ever
seen in a single production. The play
is a comedy of English life, intro
ducing many' humorous characters,
which the director has filmed in a
manner that called for originality, in
terest, action, scenic and costume ac
curacy. Opening with scenes in the home
life of an elder daughter who is
forced to wear "green stockings" at
the marriage of her younger sister.
She rebels at this and desiring to re
move the stigma of being an "old
maid;" which, has been put upon her,
she announces her engagement to a
Colonel Smith who, she ar; is sta
tioned at a British araiy posTln South
Africa.
The family is most delighted and
much ado is made over flier. She takes
every advantage of her new position
in the household and instead of wait
ing on others and remaining shyly in
the background, she becomes the
center of attraction and is much
sought after by marriageable young
men. She tukes into her confidence
her aunt who helps her in .the decen
tion. Her plans succeed nicely and
were tt not Tor the fact that several
love letters, written by her to tho
imaginary finance found their way
into the post and eventually to a real
Colonel Smith, in South Africa, all
would have 'been well. After a cer
tain number of months, she causes
to be inserted in the daily paper a
death notice of her supposed finance
and suffers the condolences of her
family, who can't do enough for her.
The real Colonel Smith, in the
meantime, comes to England and
curious to see tho writer of these
fascinating and mysterious love let
ters, calls at her house. Ho learns
by accident that (his own death notice
appears in tho paper and seeing
through the ruse of tho girl, he at
tempts to tease her. He announces
himself as an intimate friend of Col
onel Smith who was witftfl him in
his dying moments. The girl and
her aunt are puzzled and amazed and
alarmed. Colonel Smith meets the
girl and gives her what he describes
as .tokens of remembrance from her
dead lover. The girl does not under
stand what it all means and becomes
panic stricken for fear her deception
might be found out and her family
learn of it. She and her aunt pre
pare to go away but the plan is frus
trated by the aunt who takes an over-dose
of brandy.
The girl is finally forced to confess
and the climax of the comedy is
reached in the real betrothal of the
two.
The story of "Green Stockings," is
replete with humorous and appeal
ing situations, well portrayed by the
capable Vitagraph cast of actresses.
It is a comedy of exceptional qual
ity and its subtle humor makes it one
of the best comedies that has yet
been filmed. It is doubly attractive
in its enactment because the leading
characters are portrayed by such dis
tinguished players as Lillian Wpllor,
IiOuise Beaudot, Frank Currier, Adele
DeGurde, Lilian Bums, Charles Wel
lesly, Denton Vane, JoWn T. Kel'.y
and Charles Brown.
The musketry instructor had . just

particularly "green" set of recruits.
At the end he asked: "Now is there
any question you want to ask?"
One dull looking Johnny Raw stept
forward, blushing awkwardly.
"Yes, my man?" said the instruc
tor, encouragingly.
"Plaze, Sor," stammered the search
er after knowledge, "is it roight that
