JAG PRODUCED BY EXTRACTS
Offender, on Being Arrested, Wants to
. Fight Grand Jury
Hood Eiver, Or., March 10. Hood
River's record of not a single drunk
for the year has been broken, George
Martin, who owns a ranch near
Mitchell's point, appeared in town
the first of the week, purchased 11
bottles of flavoring extracts from
one grocery concern and three from
others and proceeded to get on a
jag that will not soon be forgotten
by those with whom he came in con
tact. Martin was taken into custody
at a local hotel, where he had a room,
by City Marshal J. K. Carson.
Officer Carson escorted the man
before the grand jury, which was in
session at the time. Martin, it is
said, made a dramatic entrance into
the jury room, where he placed him
self against the closed door and of
fered to fight the jurymen one by
one or en masse. He was ordered
led away to the city prison. After
he had become sobered the- city
marshal ordered him to leave town
post haste and not to return, even to
attend to shopping, if he would
avoid arrest. . Martin is an old of
fender. Mayor H. L. Dumble says that he
will interview all grocers and warn
them against selling flavoring ex
tracts unless they are sure they will
not be used to produce jags.
