STAR HAVE ROMANCE
"I do not discus my sermons with
BtranKers!" snys Rev. Penfield Stu.-gis
of St. Martins-in-thc-Lane,
"But you discuss strangers in your
sermons!" retorts Jane Bartlett, the
prima donna, who is wrought up over
the rector's denunciation of her
grand opera. "Zuporah," a sensa
tional exploitation of an apocryphal
biblical story woven around Judas
Iscariot and a seductive courtesan.

the clergyman and the grand opera

Under Mrs. Graham's Direction Piece
Moves Along Smoothly
With the church auditorium and
gallery comfortably filled, the Method
ist choir last evening presented "The
Light Eternal" for the second time
this winter. The added drill brought
about by the second presentation add
ed smoothness and perfection and the
difficult numbers were rendered with
htter satisfaction to all than the
first time given. Sickness disarrange
ed tho program at the Inst moment,
when Ralph Winters was forced to
drop out with a severe cold at the
eleventh hour. This eliminated a trio
and a baritone and tenor duet, both of
them among the best gems of the
whole production. Thirty odd voices
under Mrs. J. P. Graham's direction
sang the cantata last evening, follow
ing a short organ recital, and the ef
fort was a credit to director and per
formers. Solos and choruses alike
were well received. The' numbers as
