spring primary race is filling rapid
ly. Since O. J. Roe's Announce
ment last week of his candidacy for
the republican nomination for asses
sor, others have declared themselves
almost daily say the; Enterprise
Chieftain. C. H. Allen, the present
assessor, has decided to ask renomin
ation on the republican ticket Mr.
Allen is completing his first term in
this office. Th democratic side is
not represented yet, although there

Jackson of Ixstine entering the race
in that party. He has a wide acquain
tance and many friends.
At least five aspirants for the of
fice of district attorney are definite
ly in the field. O. M. Corkins, now
holding this office, will seek renom
ination as a democrat. He has made
an excellent official. Against him in
his party will be pitted Walter S.
Burleigh, wtio has resided in tno
country many years. j
On the republican side, W. G. Trill I
of Wallowa, A. Fairchild of Enter-1
prise and George Richards of Joseph
are aspirants for the ofifice, with
perhaps more lawyers to be heard
from. . , .
It was thought umil a few days
ago that . no election for county
judge, would be held this year. The
statutes and decisions of the courts
indicated, at first reading, that Judge
C. G. Bilyeu would hold office to the
end of the unexpired term to which
he was appointed. A closer reading
of the court decisions, however indi
cates that the appointment holds only
until the following general election,
which will call for an election for this
office this year.
Jude-e Bilyeu docs not exoect to be
a candidate for reelection. J". B.
Olmsted, who has served several years
m tms otlite, is mentioned as a
strong candidate for the republican
nomination. He was judge wheti the
court house was built, and that job
always is referred to ate one of his
achievements.
C. H. Zurcher has not made any
announcement as to his candidacy for
re-election as clerk on the republican
ticket. However, if republicans feel
his conduct of the office has been ef
ficient and satisfactory, he is willing
to ko before the party for re-nomination.
As he entered the race tw-i
years ago only after the party had
sifted cut all its available timber, and
as nothing but good words have been
heard of his management of his office,
it may be taken for granted
he will be a candidate again at the
primary. No democrat has entered
the lists against him, but of course
some will appear.
bheritt Marvin is in much the same
position as Mr. Zurcher. Ho has filed
his office acceptably several terms,
ana is willing to be a candidate again,
so there should be no doubt he will be
a candidate H. C. Cramer is a repub
lican candidate for the nomination.
He has had experience in the work and
has many friends.
Treasurer G. W. Franklin is an
other strictly eligible candidate for
re-election, with a good record for
efficient and courteous conduct of
his office. 'His republican opponent
is as yet unknown.
