A Bible Study Course.
Rev. Edwards, pastor of the Method
ist church, will organize a large Bible
study cyiss to last from now until
Easter. Mr. Edwards will use as an
outline, the suggested course in Bible
ctudv for hiifh school students by
State Superintendent Churchill, and
will suppliment this with either
new university books just issued by
the leading professors of Garrett Bib
lical University, of Chicago; Smith's
College and Syracuse University, a
new courso for college men and wom

Mr. Edwards has received much en
couragement in organizing this study
and from every department of the
church life, members will attend. A
most cordial and hearty welcome will
be extended to any outside of the
church who desire to attend. The
study will begin on Monday evening
of next week, when the first lesson
will be assigned. No effort will be
made to teach any definite theology, br
dogma, but the Bible will be taught
as It presents the law. Prophecy,
wisdom and Apocalypse, nfter which
the Bible as n literature, and the
social institution and ideals of the
Bible will bu thought out.

.Wednesday evening an enjoyable
reception was tendered for Rev. and
Mrs. Tickner of the Baptist church
who have recently arrived here. Other
pastors of the city, the congregation !
and friends assembled to make merry !

arrived last Saturdny from Dayton,
Ore., and has accepted the pastorate
of the Elgin Methodist Episcopal
church, succeeding Rev. Womnck who
was transferred to Kansas. Rev. i
Chapman held his first service Sunday
morning.
The new pastor has a son 18 years
of age, who will arrive soon and will
become a student in the Elgin Hif?h
school. A daughter of 12 years, will
not come to make her home here un
til early spring. . i
LaymcnH Convention' Attracts.
All churches and all Granges of the
state are being notified of the coming
convention of the Laymen's Missionary
Movement, to be held at the White
Temple in Portland, February 13th to
Kith, ami thu Executive Committee for
the convention extends the invitation
to at tend, to nil male members of every
church orgnn'izntion of Oregon and
Southwestern Washington.
The convention will be addressed by
12 or 15 of the most prominent men
connected with the missionary move
ment of tha world, both at homo and
abroad.
No collections will be taken up, nor
will money bo raised in the convention
by any other means. The total cost to
each delegate is n registration fee of
$1. In return for that sum, of monoy
the dolngkato 1agiven a ticket that
entitles him to attend the lectures
given by the great orators who wi'.l
apeak at every session. Delegates who
wish to be present should at once send
in their names to John A. Goodcll,
Y. M. C. A. building, Portland, to
gether with the registration fee.
The Portland meeting is one of 75
similar meetings to be held in vurious
Cities of the United States. They are
orgnnized for the purpose of arousing
the United States to a sense of the op
portunity for spreading the gospel
of Jesus throughout the world at a
time that offers a great opportunity
for the work. The foreign wars have
so disorganized society that it is bo-
