Imbler, Dec 25. (Special) The
Minstrel concert staged last Thurs
day evening by the Imbler -Brass band
was a decided success. First came
a haJf hour concert and, while the
. boys were abusing their visages pre
paratory to the minstrel, a film was
run by Lawrence Wiggan to amuse
the waitinir audience. When the cur-
' tain rose and disclosed the boys sing
ing the opening chorus it would have
been a wise father indeed who knew
his own son. Aftey the opening
chorus, during which the following
"coons" Sherwood Williams, Darrell
Larsen,' Kipling Larsen, Lyal String
ham and Lamar Westenskow sang
solos, the gags began. W. V. Connor
was the interlocutor, with Owen All
phin, Eugene Blanchard, Walter Fur
man and Joe Keown acting as end
men. During this ' part of the en
tertainment the following boIos were
given:
D. C. Wilson, "Who Knows."
Sherwood Williams, "Somewhere a
Voice is Calling."
Lamar Westenskow, "You are the
Rose of my Heart."
Darrell Larsen, "Dancing the Jelly
Roll." ,
After the minstrel part several
specialties were staged including a
fake trombone solo and an artist
stunt by Lynn Stringham and Dar
rell Larsen, a monologue "Grape
Juice Sam," by D. C. Wilson, closing
chorus and cake-walk, the former by
eight voices, Messrs. Williams, Wil
son, Henrie Allphin, Stringhnm, All
phin, Larsen and Larsen, and the
cake-walk by William and Connor.
Much credit for the success of the en
tertainment was due to outside help,
Messrs. Allphin, Wilson and Allphin
and especially Mrs. William who acted
as pianist.
Mildred Leader, who has been stay
ing at the home of W. V. Connor for
several months, left Friday for En
terprise where her parents now re
side. Jack Clary boarded the train Friday
for Joseph to spend the holiday week
with his mother.
Both the M. E. and L. D. S. Sunday
Schools celebrated Christinas by pro
grams, trees and treats Friday even
ing The Larsen orchestra furnished thu
music for the dance Friday night.
Thursday afternoon School No. 78,
after appropriate exercises, closed for
the Christmas vacation and Principal
Joseph Eshelman left fur Portland
where he will spend the holidays.
Owing to a delay in shipping the
reels from Portland the fourth in
stallment of the Million Dollar Mys
tery was postponed from Wednesday
to Saturday evening.
Invitations are out for ia social at
the home of Miss Elva Conklin and
given 'by Mr. F. S. Flrancis. The
date is New Year's Eve.
Kev. Womack was down from El
gin and preached at the local M. EV
church Sunday evening. Ruby Rol
lins led the young people's meeting.
A watch party at the church on New
Year's Eve is being planned, as has
been the custom on former New
Year's Eve.
The Imbler school closed Friday
afternoon by giving the following
general program at the Amusement
hall:

A tree was. -provided and each pu
pil received a present. Nearly two
hundred patrons gathered to enjoy
the program. Most of the teachers
will remain in Imbler during the va
cation only the two lady teachers
leaving, Miss Pearson to La Grande
and Miss Snider to her iranch home.
Mr. Francis intended spending his va
cation in the western part of the
state but later accepted a position in
the Bend high school for the second
semester and will not leave till the
middle of January. School will not
reopen till Januairy 3, 1916.
On December 28 the M. I. A. ren
dered the drama "Jerry the Tramp"
with the following local talent cast:

Christmas passed very quietly in
Imbler, several stores being closed
most of the day.
Dr. Moore left for Portland and
Oregon City Wednesday evening to
spend Christmas with his father and
other relatives and friends.
