On next Saturday afternoon,
March . 20th the Women's Reltet
Corps of La Grande will hold then
first meeting in the Kn'ghts of Pyth
ias hall, having removed from the I.
O. O. F. hall. At thin meeting Sev
eral new members will be initiated
and a complete new prugram will be
outlined for membership. For some
time there has been a misunder
standing regarding the eligibility to
membership in the Corps. Anv
loyal woman is entitled to member
ship and it is not essential that ilic
has had relatives in the civil war -a:
many believe. When tins fact be
comes permanently established it is
believed the Corps membership will
materiality increase. 1 he memories
of the old veterans, both living and
dead, has been kept burning bright
ly in La Grande by the noble women
of the Corps, and while no heavy
demonstration j have been made llieve
has ever been Hint anient loyally to
those who fought during the trouble
some days of 1861-05. That tfco
order of the ladies will increase
rather than diminish in numbers as
time goes on seems certain.
Saint Patrick's Day will be cele
brated in fine style thin year by the
Grande Romle Sons of Erin. Remem
bering the fame of the ancient
Irish minstrels who traveled through
the Emerald Isle singing the won
derful deeds of Celtic heroes, the
local representatives have decided to
present an Irish Minstrel for the en
joyment of thoir friends. Many
novel effects have been arranged and
when the curtain nscj at Sherry's
Theatre a scene that will gladden
the hearts of sons and friends of
Ireland will be presented to their
view. The chorus has been practis
ing faithfully for the past six weeks
and they ore now rendering the new
and old in Irish music with the
feeling that only an Irishmnn can
put into it.
Irish wit and humor will be
plentifully interspersed throughout I
the musicul program. Some of the
ncal celebreth i aro due for a.i un
merciful grilling and the Irish Bards
will do them to a turn. The second
part of the program will consist of a
first class vaudeville entertainment.
The management of Sherry's theatre
has token much interest in the af
fair and has secured several reels of
first class : Irish travel pictures
specially for the Grande Rondo Sons
Tickets for the event are for sale in
