Basketball league in this city will be
scrolled at the high school gymna
sium, ' The shopmen and the high
school quintet are to mix. ; Waldo
Geddes, mentor of the shopmen, ad
mits his team is largely made up of
recruits, though some, of , them .are
.shifty athletes who have played the
game elsewhere with good' results,
Crawley, a member of the shopteam,
.formerly played with the high school,
The high school five has been in
one game this year and demonstrated
that the old pep is there stHl, al
. though new men are in the team.
The game is called for 8 o'clock
sharp, and Williamson and Spiker are
booked as referee and umpire, respec-

: "bill introduced in, the legislature last
- week to abolish, the. state fish and
game commission, members '. of . the
Umatilla County Fish '& Game asso-
, ciation and other feport lovers held a
. mass meeting in this city yesterday
afternoon and voted unanimously to
use every influence in their power to
block the proposed legislation.
, The abolishment of the commission
plan of protecting -and propagating
the wild game of the state would be
step backward in the opinion of the
local sportsmen. After much discus
sion they voted to present their pro
test to the members of the Umatilla
county delegation and other legisla.
tors with whom individual members
ana acquaintance! and urge them to
retain the present system. They are
also addressing communications to
other game organizations of this
district urging them , to take a stand
against the bill.
