WALLOWA'S MAINS
SATURDAY
FROZEN
Constant Work With Steam Engine
; Haa Thawed out Main Part -
Wallowa, Ore., Jan. 17. (Special)
As the result of constant work up
on the water mains lately, most of
the pipes are thawed out. This is a
great relief to the people of the town
for when the water pipes were frozen
there would have been no chance to
save a building, in case of fire. Sat
urday morning when the engine was
thawing out a pipe in the southeast
part of town, word was Rent from the
the engine, as the cold weather 'the
night before had . frozen ithe pipes
connected with the water tank,, and
the railroad engine could get no wa
ter. This is the first time the mains
have ever frozen, nnd shows that
the weather here this winter has been
colder than the average.
Hie home talent' play, ' "On the
border of Mexico" which was present
ed in the opera house Friday night,
was a success, and a large crowd at
tended. Every seat it the house was
taken, and a good nuiny were forced
to stand up. The play, which was a
three-act comedy-drama, was well
played and speaks well for the abl'i
ty of the local talent. . , . .!
