D. Howland Will Leave Tonight
for Portland on Business.
After spending the holidays in -ral-la
Walla with relatives, L. D. How
land returned -last evening to assume
his office as county surveyor, and
today filed his bond for $5,000. To
night he leaves for Portland to at
tend the irrigation congress in the
capacity of assistant water superin
tendent for this second district.
George T. Cochran, the superintend
ent, may not be able to attend the
congress, due to the death of his
uncle, George Ruckman.
County Commissioners In ' ' Session. -
The county: commissioners are ' in
session today, the newly appointed
member, W. J. Townley, of Union, be
ing present for his first session. The
only business, to come before the
board today is the considering of bills
against the county; other y matters,
coming up tomorrow.
