La Grande high signalized the
opening of her 'basketball season last
evening by snowing under the active
quintet from the Joseph high school
Final score 46 to 23. The press agent
was right when he said the Joseph
team was an improvement over last
yefir's power, but the team still needs
polish when it gets it, Joseph will
be a contender for honors. Coach Mc
Afee has done much to develope form
with the squad.
'La Grande's five was made up of
some old faces and some new ones,
but the old-time pep was still there,
albeit, early-season roughspots show
up in the playing. When these wear
off, and the new guards get in tune
with the veterans, La Grande will
have a better team than last year. The
prospects are indeed bright.
La Grande took the lead early and
though Dunbar and S. Cole at
forwards, heaved an occassional goal
and E. Core at center took advant
age of a big majority of free throws,
the Josepli scoring machine was not
equal to the task. The home team
took the offensive from the start and
played under the axiom JJiat a good
offense is the best defense.
The lineup:
La - Grande Forwards: James
Roscnbaum and Larsen. Center: Bean
Guards: E. Rosenbaum, Woods and
Westering.
Joseph E. Cole, center; S. Cole,
If.; Dunbar, rf; J. Coleman, lg; Allen,
rg; Medeskor, utility.
Referee, Larson.

that a match game is to be held with
the La Grande team on the La Grange
alleys on Jan. 12 for a $100 side bet
has given a renewed impetus to the
pastime," says the Pendleton E. O.
"Last evening at the Bungalo al
leys the "Kaisers" and the "Allies"
mixed again but, in order to make
the contests more even, a switch of
some of the men was' made. Hoovsr,
who has been with the "Allies" be
came a "Kaiser" last evening and his
high score of 693 almost enabled the
"Kaisers" to win. As it was they
lost by 11 pins, the final score being
2508 to 2497."
