Are You Going to Attend the
Grande Ronde Chautauqua
JULY 3 to 12
From the first coming of the white m an, and even long before, Grande Ronde
Valley has been famous for its beauty, lo cation, and riches. Today it is known to
all who have seen it and thousands of others as the Garden Spot of the Inland Em
pire. La Grande is recognized as the hub city of Eastern Oregon. All experts s.iy
' Grande Ronde Valley is the largest, riche3 1 body of land in the west.
Due to years of healthful dlevelopmen t, La Grande and Union county have earn
ed a well merited reputation of being the m ost prosperous city and county in Oregon.
Due to its favorable location La Grande ha s prospered by help of the largest pryroll
in the state outside of Portland; and due to its enviable soil and climate Grande
Ronde Valley has prospered by reason of the most diversified yield of any county in
the West As La Grande has grown it has provided! market facilities for the encrm
jus production of the Grande Ronde Valley; and the valley in turn has cheaply
furnished the city with the necessities o life. And in addition the hills and meadows
of Union county surrounding the great valley yield cattle, and horses, and timber, and
gold and power. This community has long been known as a city where business is
always goodl, where citizens are seldom out of employment, where homes and f-.rms
lands are reasonable, and where crops are certain. And the people of this soction
are wide awake, progressive, developer?.
But of late years a new fame has come to this favored locality. Added to the
thrift of the people has grown the desire for culture. During the past few years La
Grande has built some splendid churches, a $100,000.00 high school and three fine
modern grade schools, a large public library; and a Y. M. C. A. is now in course of
construction.
The women of La Grande have provided the city with one of nature's grandest
beauty rpots as a natural park, and by their gift incidentally provided an ideal home
for the Grand Ronde Chautauqua assembly that is doing its share to bring La
Grande forward as the educational and cultural center of Eas.ern Oregon.
We hpve many choice resident properties in and about La Grands at prices and
terms to unit everybody. Call and see us.

pose of promoting world-wide peace,
and, -
' Whereas, we believe that world-wide
peace is in strict accordance with the
wishes of God, and for the welfare
of His human family,
Therefore, Be It Resolved, that we
do all in our power to promote the
cause of peace, and give Aur support
to The Hague t nf erence. '
We most emphatically wish to say
"Thank You" and "Much Obliged;"
Tp our district officers for their
splendid perfection of this convention;
To the Deoole of La Grande for not
J only the royal way in which we have
been given the necessities of life, but
also for the pleasures going along
with these necessities; and, too, for
being permitted to hold this conven
tion in the fine new church which
they have so lately built;
To the choir, special singers, and
various organists and pianists who
have been so cheerful in contributing
to the life and success of the conven
tion;
To the La Grande press for their
kindness- and large allowance,, of
space in the paper for convention
news and data;
To the pastor, Dr. E. B. Fyke of
La Grande, for his hearty co-opera
tion, encouragement and suggestions
To Rev. Edwards of Baker, for his
fine sermon delivered to us last Sun
day morning;
lo Prof. Matthews of Wilumette
University, for his interesting address
to us last Sunday evening; ,
To Rev. Martin of Union, for his
pleasant, helpful talk today;
To God, who we feel has been our
leader in this convention, for the
splendiid outlook for great work in
thus district for the year 1914-15.
Whereas, the Hobson Bill. Drovidinr
for the submitting of an -amendment
to the constitution of the United
States, for the prohibition of the
manufacture, sale, and importation of
intoxicating liquors in the United
States, is to be presented to the Con
gress of the United States, and
Whereas, we believe that the manu
facture, sale, and importation of in
toxicating liquors is opposed to the
life, liberty and the happiness of our
people and means ultimate ruin to our
nation,
Therefore, Be It Resolved, that we
urge our Representatives in Coneress
to support the bill, and pledge them
that they are expressing the wishes
of the best class of citizens of our
own great state.
Be It Also Resolved! that a codv of
these resolutions be sent to our Ren-
rosentatives in Congress; that they be
placed upon our minutes.
Further, Be It Resolved, that we
urge the churches in our district to
take such action upon the subject as
shall make our Representativees know
their wishes in the matter.
Respectfully submitted, I
Committee on resolutions,
