The Sophomore class of the Cove
high school entertained the Fresh
men at the home of George Miller
last Friday evening. An enjoyable
time was had by all. That which
probably caused the most fun was the
initiation of the Freshmen. Those
present were Ella Sutherland, Miskel
Bloom, Pauline Geer, Miss Severs,
Georgia Miller, George Williams,
Tommy Conklin, Leslie Peck, Leon
ard Love, Schlagle Sibley, James
Lillie, Paul Houx, Earl McCallister,
Robert Baker, Fred Rees, Henry Max
field, Mr. Allen.
Hugh McCall. is in La Grande at
tending to business matters this week.
Howard Dean is working in the bank
during his absence.
Ruth Holmes has been very sick for
several week past, but she is improv
ing and it is hoped that she will soon
be able to attend school again.
Katie Houx and Hattie De Borde,
were here Saturday and Sunday
spending the time with their families.
They returned Sunday evening to
Haines where they are teaching this
winter.
Gladys Martin was taken to La
Grande Friday where she was operat
ed on for ear trouble. She is getting
along all right.
John Burdette and family left last
week for North Powder where Mr.
Burdette will take charge of the home
stead owned by Dr. Law, of Union.
L. B. Hallwark is putting up a res
idence on his place a half mile north
of Cove.
The Shanghi students are practic
ing for a play entitled "Topsy Turve,y"
which they will put on at the Macca
bee hall next Saturday evening.
Mr. and Mrs. Al Daniel returned
Thursday from Portland and Van
couver where they have been visiting J
relatives for several weeks past. They I
say the city is all right for a while

barket for the time of one year.
