James Crowley, superintendent of
the Palmer Lumber camp at Palmer
Junction, was a passenger to that
place this morning.
Bruce Cox, of the La Grande Gro
cery company, made a business trip
to Imbler and Summerville this morn
ing in the interest of the company.
Mrs. Frank Hoffmeyer and children
who have made Wallowa their home
for some time returned there today
after visiting in La Grande.
Miss Pearl Woods, of near Sum
merville returned to that place' this
morning after visiting relatives . in
the city for some time.
Sam Brooks, of Imbler, was a pas
senger to that place after transacting
business in the county seat for a
number of "days.
Mrs. Jno. Heath of Pleasant Val
ley, left for home after visiting with
friends in the city and shopping. She
was aaccompanied by her son Fred
erick. Mrs. L. R. Perry, of La Grande,
left today for Imbler where she will
be the guest of her sons Charles and
Ross Perry, who are employed at that
place.
Ed. Ayers of Elgin, was in the city
yesterday making arrangements with
local real estate men to remove his
family to this city the first of the
coming month.
Mrs. Anderson of Weiser, who has
been the guest of her sister Mrs.
Ralph Wallace of this city, left for
her home this morning. She has
been visiting in Canada with relatives
and stopped off on her way home.
P. A. McDonald and wife left this
morning for Los Angeles where they
will spend the rest of the winter.
They took advantage of the excursion
rates over the San Pedro, Los Angeles
and Salt Lake roads, which are good
from La Grande only today.
H. Blackwell, of Portland, arrived
I in the city enroute to Wallowa where
he will load a car of white laced
bulls bought of McDonald and Hun
ter, raisers of this variety of cattle.
They are intended for distribution
in Alvoy, Harney county, where far
mers have commenced to raise beef
cattle on a large scale.
Mrs. C. E. Cook, of San Francisco,
' formerly of Cleveland, Ohio, is in the
j city the guest of Mr. and Mrs. E. T.
Andrews, on Sixth street. She is
, very agreeably impressed with the
natural beauty of the calley, and the
delightful weather conditions, com
pared with what she experienced dur
ing her Btay in the eastern states.

The almost human monkey at Sher
ry's theatre, and the intelligent cock
atoos trained by Mile. Viola, are a
wonderfully strong' drawing card. Last
night the theatre was packed to the
doors from 7 o'clock until closing time
and when the birds and mokey were
going through their stunts hardly a
sound could be heard in the big the
atre.
The birds go through several ac'
robatic stunts, assist' in thg exting
uishing of a fire in a house, see-saw
and many other antics that would
make one think they could hardly dq
it without intelligence. One big
bird showed a marked degree of
humanlike intelligence in calling out
any number one may write. The
plumage of two of the birds beggars
description for beauty. But they
are only beautiful and do little in the
way of acting.

night and gave evidence of thq fact
that this vaudeville attraction is real
ly what anybody would call it, one
of the best animal bills that has ever
