February 22 la Day Set for "All Men
In Church" Movement.
Sunday, February 22 Washing
ton's birthday is the tmie set
for La Grande to observe the nation- j
al custom inaugurated this year to
have every man attend some church
at least one day in the year. - Other
cities of the state .have 'already set
their dates for this practice which i
being made na.ional. At the minis
terial association meeting; held here
yesterday afternoon, the ministers of
the city chose February . 22' as the
time for -the big services. '".
Each church will conduct its ser
vices as usual, but special stress to
get every man in La Grande into a
church building on that .day, will go
forth. The plan is generally popular
and is here. Publicity will be given
to the proposition early. Men "who
never go to church except on funeral
and wedding occasions, will be es
pecially invited. The sermons and
services will probably be nothing put
of the ordinary, but the feature of
the day is to be the bringing of men
into the church for at least one re
ligious service a day. -

Will Likely Be the Oriy Time This
Is Shown Here. '
The great drama Quo Vadis is to be
shown at the Arcade tomorrow night.
In a sense it is one of the biggest
things that has come to La Grande
in the way of pictures. It is acted
by the foremost company of Italians
and cost a fabulous sum in produc
ing it. A cheap company could not
attempt to act this great play of
Roman times when the butcher Nero,
held all Rome under his corrupt hand
by threats of death.' When Christ
ians became living torches for a lux
ury, and when lewdness and intrigue,
coarse living and general corruption
contrasted with some of the noblest
examples of living the world ever
heard of. It Is this contrast between
the forces of wickedness and these
fervent Christians' that makes this
drama such a marvelous production.
The pictures' of the firing of the city,
supposed to have been done by Nero
himself, who played a fiddle and sang
the while, are among the most excit
ing scenes in the play, marvelously
executed. It is far superior to the
famous play, "The Fall of Troy," and
takes rank as one of the biggest pro
ductions in the picture world. . ;
Owing to the length of' this film
patrons are requested to be 'on hand
not later than 7:15, tomorrow night
for the first show, and 9 o'clock for
the second. " It will be here two nights
only and mayhap may never be shown
here again. Adv..
