An intereitieg treatise oo Oregon ;
dog is coBtaioed in the following
dispatch from Saiem.
' If yoa are a residest of Union
county, and if yoa own a dog, and if
it is .aa average Union coanty dog,
that dog is worth fSO.83.
Bat if yoa live in Clatsop coanty
acd own aa average dog there, yoar
canine property is worth only f2.
These respective valsatioBs are set
by the respective Assessor? of the two
counties named and eoallxed by
their respective Boards of Eqoalix
Stioa. The figures are taken from the
saau&arie of assessment rolls of
Oregon coonties, as compelled by the
State Tax Commission. They repres
ent the two extremes of canine val
uation in Oregon. Between these ex
tremes of highest and lowest there
are a lot of interesting highs, lows
and intermediates. -.
Average value of a dog in Mult
nomah county, for instance, is $11--
58; in Tillamook, $22.65; in Washing
ton, $6.25; in YimhilL $5.02; in Mar
ion, $29.05; in Lincoln, $2857; in
Malheur, $4.06; In Curry, $50; in Lane
$1632.
According to the assessor there are
more dogs in Yamhill than ia any
other county of the state. 1 They num
ber 1828. Union county pays taxes
on the fewest, six. Multnomah pays
property on but 76 dogs, while Curry
county, the most sparsely populated
pays taxes on 312 dogs. Clackamas,
which adjoins Multnomah os one side,
pays taxes on 1756 dogs, and Hood
Biver, which adjoins Multnomah on
another side, pays taxes on but 108. j
